본고의 목적은 한국어의 일명 내핵관계절 구성의 통사와 의미를 고찰하는 것이다. 이를 위해 본고는 먼저 그 동안 한국어에 존재하는 내핵관계절로 언급된 구성들을 과연 내핵관계절로 처리하는 것이 타당한지를 검토해 보았다. 첫째, 한국어의 일명 내핵관계절 구성은 핵어명사가 관형사절과 주절 사태 모두의 의미론적 참여자가 되지 않는다는 점에서 관계절의 본질적 속성을 갖추고 있다고 보기 어렵다. 둘째, 언어유형론적인 측면에서 한국어의 일명 내핵관계절 구성은 다른 언어의 전형적인 내핵관계절 구성과 차이가 있고, 이들을 상호관계절로 볼 수도 없으며, 외핵관계절과의 기능 분담의 측면에서도 범언어적인 경향과 차이가 있음을 논의했다. 본고는 일명 내핵관계절 구성의 통사와 의미를 일반적인 ‘관형사절+것’ 구성의 틀 속에서 고찰해 보았다. 한국어의 일명 내핵관계절 구성의 통사는 ‘비관계절+것’의 통사 구조와 동일하며, 이때 ‘것’은 관형사절의 명제 의미 전체를 대상화하여 받는다. 그리고 이들에게서 내핵관계절적인 해석이 유발되는 것은 ‘것’이 주절 서술어의 논항이 되면서 논항이 요구하는 의미 요소인 개체로서의 의미가 부각된 것으로 이해할 수 있었다.

The goal of this paper is to consider the syntax and semantics of so-called internally-headed relative clause in Korean. First, this paper discusses whether it is appropriate to view so-called internally-headed relative clause in Korean as internally-headed relative clause actually. It is hard to say that the constructions of the internally-headed relative clause in Korean have the essential attribute of relative clause in that the head noun does not become a semantic participant of both the adnomianl clause and main clause. And internally-headed relative clauses in Korean are different from typical internally-headed relative clauses of other languages, and they can not be regarded as co-relative clauses, in the viewpoint of language typology. The syntax and semantics of the internally-headed relative clause in Korean can be understood in the framework of general construction of the ‘adnominal clause + ges’. The syntactic structure of the internally-headed relative clauses in Korean is the same as that of ‘non-relative clause + ges’. And the meaning of ‘ges’ becomes the whole propositional meaning of the adnomminal clause. The reason of the meaning of ‘ges’ is interpreted as an entity is ‘ges’ becomes the argument of the predicate in the main clause.
