본 연구는 대학생 간 호칭어 사용에 대해서 사회언어학적 변이 연구 방법론에 입각하여 여러 변인에 따라 어떤 호칭어가 선택되는지 살펴보고, 00학번부터 19학번까지 지난 20년간 대학생 사이에서 호칭어 사용에 어떠한 변화가 있었는지 검토해 보고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 ‘발화자 변인’, ‘수신자 변인’, ‘상황 변인’의세 가지 변인군을 설정하고 세부 하위 항목을 설정하였으며 여러 가지 변인에 따라 호칭어 사용이 달라질 것으로 보고 설문지를 구성하였다. 60명의 대학생 및 대학 졸업자의 응답을 수집, 분석함으로써 ‘발화자의 학번에 따른 호칭어 사용양상’, ‘발화자·수신자의 성별/친소 관계에 따른 호칭어 사용 양상’, ‘수신자의 나이/학번에 따른 호칭어 사용 양상’, ‘수신자의 소속/학번에 따른 호칭어 사용양상’, ‘발화 상황/친소 관계에 따른 호칭어 사용 양상’을 살펴보았다.

This study aims to investigate the usage of address terms between university students over the past 20 years, based on the sociolinguistic variation research methodology. Three factor groups were considered: ‘addressor’, ‘addressee’, and ‘situation.’ In regard to ‘addressor’, ‘year of admission’ and ‘sex’ were considered. As to ‘addressee’, ‘sex’, ‘age gap’, ‘gap between year of admission’, ‘affiliation’, and ‘degree of intimacy’ were considered to affect the choice of address terms. Regarding to ‘situation’, it was assumed that people used different address terms whether they were in ‘public situation’ or ‘private situation.’ The questionnaire survey were conducted, and the responses of 60 university students and graduates were analyzed. The analysis was focused on the usage patterns of address terms according to ‘the year of admission of addressor’, ‘sex and degree of intimacy between addressor and addressee’, ‘gap between age and the year of admission between addressor and addressee’, and ‘situation and degree of intimacy between addressor and addressee.’
