Based on Darvin & Norton's(2015) foundational work in bilingual education, 'Identity and a Model of Investment', this study examined the ways three Vietnamese marriage migrants invested their language capital, identity and ideology during their settlement in South Korea. We applied thematic content analysis methods for data analysis and found all three research participants (1) strengthened their bilingual identity during language socialization; (2) successfully transferred their bilingual capital to socio-economic capital as they worked as a bilingual instructor/translator/interpreter; and (3) struggled and negotiated between Korean ethnocentrism and multiculturalism/multilingualism. In so doing, they have actively responded to social restrictions and sought various opportunities to promote their social position in South Korea.
