그동안 마을공동체 영역은 지속적인 발전을 이루어왔지만, 대부분 최소한의 경제적 성과를 달성하지 못하며 자생적 운영에 실패하는 경우가 많다. 그러나 선행연구는 마을공동체 사업의 경제적 성과를 제고할 수 있는 합리적인 모델을 기반으로 실증연구를 하지 못하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 마을공동체 발전전략들을 융합적으로 접목시켜서 체계적인 모델을 수립하고, 이를 통해 공동체 사업의 종합적인 경제적 성과와 하부체계로서 사업단위ㆍ지역단위의 경제적 성과에 대한 주요 결정요인들을 비교ㆍ분석하여 정책적 함의를 제시하고자 한다. 분석결과를 보면, 지역자산의 체계적 활용, 내부주체의 참여와 지원, 중개자의 참여와 지원, 내부 평가체계가 모든 모델에서 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 다만, 중개자의 참여와 지원은 모든 모델에서 경제적 성과에 부정적 영향을 끼치는 것으로 분석되었다. 한편, 거버넌스 참여 유인기제의 제공정도는 하위체계인 사업단위에만 유의미한 영향을 미치고 교육프로그램의 효과성은 지역단위에서만 통계적으로 유의미하게 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구는 마을공동체 사업의 종합적인 경제적 성과에 미치는 결정요인들뿐만 아니라 사업단위와 지역단위의 경제적 성과를 제고시키기 위해서는 어떤 요인들을 체계적으로 고려하고 적극적으로 반영할 필요가 있는지를 실증적 연구를 통하여 제시하고 있다는 점에서 그 의의가 있다.

A lot of community development projects have been progressing so far, but most of them have failed to achieve the threshold of economic performance to operate itself, and then are likely to close their own business. In addition, previous study have not provided a systematic model based on theoretical foundation and empirical study in order to improve the economic performance of community development projects. From this reason, this study built a theoretical model using convergent approaches with integral local and community development strategies. Furthermore, it analyzed the significant determinants of a comprehensive economic performance model and its sub-models such as project unit model and community unit model. From the results, scientific use of local assets, internal actor's participation and support, mediator's participation and support, internal monitoring structure had a great impact on all models. However, unlike a hypothesis, participation and support of the mediators showed a negative influence on economic performance for community development projects. While incentive for governance participation and educational program effectiveness had a positive impact on comprehensive economic performances of community development projects, their influene differed at the sub-models. incentive for governance participation were especially significant on economic performance of project unit and educational program effectiveness particularly had a significance influence on economic performance of community unit. This study identified critical determinants that lead to the growth of economic performance of community development projects through the theoretical model which is based on convergent approach of diverse local and community development strategies. This study has important value in that it suggested the necessity of a distinct approach between economic performance of project unit and economic performance of community unit and systematically conducted empirical study based on the sub-models.
