필자는 이 논문에서 한국과 베트남의 대표적 선악형제담(善惡兄弟譚)의 제재, 가치관과 문화 코드 등을 비교·고찰하여 한국-베트남 간 문화소통방안을 모색하였다. <별나무 이야기>, <금 구덩이, 은 구덩이> 등의 베트남 선악형제담에서 형들은 장자라는 권위를 이용하여 부모의 유산을 독점하고 동생을 빈털터리로 쫓아낸다. ‘형’들은 품성 면에서 ‘욕심 다스리기’에 실패한 사람들이며, 사회계급 면에서는 탐욕스러운 기득권층을 상징한다. <흥부와 놀부>, <금방망이 은방망이> 등 한국 선악형제담에서도 형들의 성격과 탐욕으로 인한 갈등은 베트남 이야기와 거의 동일하다. 베트남과 한국의 선악형제담에서 동생들은 가난하고 힘없는 백성을 대표한다. 동생들의 가난은 형들의 탐욕에 기인한다. 베트남 선악형제담에서 형들은 탐욕의 대가로 ‘죽음’이라는 결말을 맞는다. 한국의 선악형제담에서 형의 죽음으로 끝나는 결말은 소수이고, 형제간 ‘화해 및 용서’의 결말방식이 주요하게 나타난다. 베트남 선악형제담에 등장하는 까마귀·봉황새·원숭이·물고기 등의 동물 캐릭터, 부처 등의 신격 캐릭터, 별나무·황금감나무·빈랑 등의 식물, 산과 바다, 섬 등의 지리적 표상, ‘황금’ 선호사상은 베트남의 문화적 특징을 잘 보여준다. 독서·토론, 강연·강의·학습의 방식을 통해 베트남 옛이야기를 이해하고, 한국-베트남 양국의 문화와 사고방식에 대해 토의, 비교분석할 수 있다면 흥미로 울 것이다.

This study examined whether Vietnam’s old literature could contribute to Koreans’ understanding of and respect for Vietnamese culture, emotions, and values. About 150,000 Vietnamese immigrants live in Korea currently. By comparing and examining the materials, values, and cultural codes of the representative sibling conflict stories of Korea and Vietnam, this study tries to understand the multicultural nature of Vietnamese culture in Korean society. It also proposes a method of cultural communication in Korean society. In sibling conflict stories, the older brother characters are the ones who have failed to control their greed. Brothers and sisters in Korean and Vietnamese literature represent poor and powerless people. Their poverty is due to the older sibling’s greed. Understanding the nature and climate of Vietnam can be made easier if this context is explained before reading or practicing old Vietnamese stories in Korea. Many Korean and Vietnamese folk tales share similar themes, characters, and compositions. If we can understand both the comparative literature and the homogeneity of the two countries in the long tradition of Chinese characters and their representative culture, and also explain the differences in terms of multicultural understanding, Koreans can live with the 150,000 Vietnamese immigrants living in our society. It will help Korean understand Vietnamese culture.
