이 연구는 박화성 문학에 대해 ‘프롤레타리아 문학’이라는 틀을 벗어나 다양한 관점으로 해석하는 기회를 가짐으로써 그의 문학 세계의 자장을 넓히고 재해석 할 수 있는 계기로 삼고자 하였다. 이에 그의 작품 「비탈」을 텍스트로 삼아 깊이 있게 해석하여 미학적 성격을 규명해 보고자 한다. 1930년대 남도의 한 소작인 가정의 여성을 둘러싼 ‘삶’의 일상을 축으로 삼아 그의 작품을 분석하다 보면, 원형적 이미지의 활용과 비극적 영웅서사 플롯의 변용을 확인할 수 있다. 여성 주인공이 형상화하는 희생양의 이미지와 제의 적인 서사구조는 이 소설이 여성수난담적 요소를 포함함으로써 당대의 사회 문화적 배경을 흡수하고 민중적이며 대중적인 성격을 획득한다. 특히 민담에서 나타나는 여성주인공의 생명력과 생산성의 이미지는 그들이 가지는 성격을 입체적으로 형성하고 서사의 결말을 독자들이 용인할 수 있게 만드는 역할을 한다. 이런 점에서 민담의 내러티브가 적극 반영된 것으로 보인다. 작가가 의도하지 않았더라도 작품이 생산되고 유통되는 당대의 현실은 작품의 곳곳에 반영되는 것을 넘어 작품 전체의 의미 구성에 적극적으로 개입되었다는 것을 알 수 있다.

This study interpreted the novel Hwasung Park from various perspectives by breaking away from the framework of ‘proletarian literature’ to expand the field of the author’s literary world and reinterpret the pieces. In response, this study had an in-depth interpretation of texts from [Slope] to identify the aesthetic characteristic. In analyzing the works of Park based on the ‘daily lives’ of a woman from a tenant family at Nam-do around the 1930s, the use of prototypical images and the transformation of a tragic, heroic narrative plot are found. The image of a scapegoat, embodied by the female character and ritualistic narrative structure showed that the novel included the woman’s sufferings to absorb the social and cultural background of the time and reflect popular and public characteristics. The images of a female character’s life force and productivity form characteristics realistically and make readers accept the ending of the novel. Thus, the novel actively reflects the narrative of a folktale. Works being created and distributed without the intentions of the author are reflected in various parts of the novel, actively composing the narrative’s overall meaning.
