2000년대 인도네시아 문단에 나타난 새로운 현상 중 하나는 그동안 금기시되었던 소재에 대한 다양한 관점과 견해를 표출한 작품들이 등장한 것이다. 이 가운데 표면 위로 급부상하기 시작한 성에 대한 담론은 문단에 성적 다양성을 논하는 공간을 마련했고, 그 결과로 동성애를 다루는 적지 않은 작품들 또한 양산되었다. 이러한 현상과 관련하여 여성 작가들이 문학 속 동성애 담론을 주도하고 있다는 특징 또한 발견된다. 이에 본 연구는 동성애 모티브의 문학적 집중도가 높은 작품으로 손꼽히는 『타불라 라사』와 『나일라』를 연구대상으로 하여 동시대 인도네시아 소설이 동성애 모티브를 다루는 양상을 레즈비언 모티브에 초점을 맞추어 고찰했다. 『타불라 라사』는 라라스가 레즈비언이라는 성 정체성을 확립해 가는 도정을 중심서사로 하여 성애의 비정상성과 젠더 일탈에 대한 라라스의 번민을 통해 제도적 담론으로서 이성애주의의 견고함을 재현했다. 또한 소설의 결말에서 ‘타불라 라사’라는 로크의 핵심 사상을 비유로 사용하여 성애와 젠더의 기존 이분법적 틀에 대한 재고의 방식으로 인간 성애의 다양성과 가변성에 대한 사유를 제시하였다. 『나일라』는 레즈비언 페미니즘 시각을 바탕으로 남성 중심적 섹슈얼리티를 이성애 섹슈얼리티와 연결하여 비판하며, 레즈비언의 성애를 이에 대한 대안으로 제시했다. 작품 속 레즈비언 모티브는 몸, 욕망, 섹슈얼리티에 있어 여성 주체성을 추구하고자 하는 주제를 형상화 하는데 핵심적 전략으로 작용하고 있다. 한편 두 작품 모두 동성애를 후천적으로만 바라보는 시선을 보여 동성애 역시 본능이고 자연스러운 성의 한 형태임을 배제하고 있다. 또한 여성 동성애를 모두 유년기 성폭력 트라우마와 연결하여 이성애에 대한 기피 혹은 저항으로만 바라보고 있다.
One of the new phenomena in contemporary Indonesia’s literary world is the emergence of works presenting various views on the subjects that have been taboo. Among them, the discourse on sex, which is beginning on the rise, provides room for discussion of sexual diversity in Indonesian literature. As a result, many works dealing with homosexuality flourished. These works can make members of society aware of the diversity of sexual orientation. What is interesting about the phenomenon is that the female authors lead the discourse of homosexuality by releasing many works on the issue of lesbian Considering those points, the following interesting questions emerge; how Indonesian literature texts dealt with homosexuality which considered as the hardest wall in the Indonesian Islamic culture, they dissolved the existed discourse on sexuality or only represented it on the surface. Base on those questions, this study aims to discuss the issues and motives of homosexuality in Indonesian novels, more closely the lesbian motives in Tabula Rasa by Ratih Kumala and Nayla by Djenar Maesa Ayu. As the female protagonists in those two novels dealt with the lesbian issue, this study examines the possibility and the limitation of homosexuality discourse between the two novels.
