본 연구에서는 일 자유의지와 일의 의미의 종단적 관계를 자기회귀교차지연 모형(Autoregressive cross-lagged model)을 통해 검증하였다. 이를 위해 2개월 간격으로 3차례 측정한 국내 직장인 208명(남 103명, 여 105명)의 종단 자료가 연구분석에 활용되었다. 설문은 일 자유의지 그리고 일의 의미를 측정하는 문항으로 구성되었다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 직장인의 일 자유의지와 일에서의 의미경험은 시간에 따라 안정적으로 유지되는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 시간이 지남에 따라 앞선 시기의 일 자유의지는 다음 시기의 일의 의미를 유의한 수준으로 예측하는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 1차 시기의 일 자유의지는 2차 시기의 일의 의미에 영향을 미치며, 2차 시기의 일 자유의지가 3차 시기의 일의 의미에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 일의 의미는 일 자유의지를 예측하지 않는 것으로 나타나, 두 변인 간 관계가 일방향성을 지님을 확인하였다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 연구의 시사점을 비롯한 추후 연구를 위한 함의를 제안하였다.

The study verified the relationship between work volition and meaning of work through the Autoregressive Cross-lagged Modeling. The longitudinal data which estimated 208 workers (in two-month intervals for three times) were analyzed. The survey consisted of questions that measuring work volition and meaning of work. And the results are as follows. First, work volition and meaningful work of workers are consistent and autoregressive variables, as time passes. Second, As time went by, work volition of the previous period predicted next period’s meaning of work at significant level. In other words, it was appeared that work volition of the first period affects the meaning of work in the second period, and the work volition of the second period affects the meaning of work in the third period. On the other hand, since meaning of work did not predict work volition, the relationship between the two variables has been found to be unidirectional. These were not reciprocal as only work volition was found to be a significant predictor of meaningful work over time. The implications of this research were discussed along with some limitations and suggestions for future study.
