이 논문의 목적은 식민지시기 번역소설 『춘희(椿姬)』의 계보를 밝히고 그 문학사적 의미를 분석하는 데 있다. 소설 『춘희』는 프랑스 소설가 알렉상드르 뒤마(Alexandre Dumas Fils)의 『La Dame aux Camelias』(1848)를 번역 번안한 작품이다. 뒤마의 원작을 번역 번안한 작품으로 진학문의 『홍루』(1917), 나빈의 『동백꽃』(1927), 심향산인의 『춘희』(1929), 김자혜의 『춘희_(1933) 등이 소개된 바 있다. 본고는 여기에 박루월의 『춘희』(1930)를 추가하여 『춘희』의 번역 번안 계보와 그 문학사적 의미를 다루었다. 특히 박루월의 『춘희』는 지금까지 번역소설이나 영화소설 연구에서 구체적으로 분석된 적이 거의 없고, 진학문의 작품을 제외한 나머지 번역소설에 관한 개별적인 연구 또한 찾아보기 어렵다는 점에서 본격적인 논의의 필요성이 제기되었다. 본고는 『춘희』가 우리 문단에 번역 소개되어 온 역사적 정황을 작품별로 제시하고, 그 계보의 문학사적 의미를 종합적으로 분석하여 식민지시기 『춘희』의 번역사를 조망하고자 했다. 진학문, 나도향은 일본소설을 대본으로 번역 번안했으나 제목이나 인명 등을 조선적인 표현으로 바꾸었고 축역이나 경개역이 아닌 완역에 해당하는 작품을 선보였다. 반면 심향산인, 김자혜, 박루월은 공통적으로 일본소설 제목 ‘춘희’를 그대로 수용하고 줄거리 중심의 축역, 경개역에 해당하는 작품으로 고쳤다는 점에서 앞선 작가들과 변별된다.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate and reveal the genealogy of the translated novel, Chunhee. Chunhee is a translated work of L a D ame a u x C amelias by Alexandre Dumas Fils, a French novelist (1848). During the Korean colonial period, Jin Hakmun, Na Dohyang, Shimhyangsanin, Kim Jahye, and Park Luweol translated some works of Dumas Fils. Especially, Park Luweol's work is a film novel. Not much has been known about this work u ntil recently. This paper deals with the translation genealogy and literary historical meaning of Chunhee. Except for The Hongru by Jin Hakmun, not much research has been done on other works. There is a need for a systematic study of the translation genealogy of Chunhee. Thus, this paper presents the characteristics of individual works, and a comprehensive analysis of the literary and historical implications of the genealogy. When translating Japanese works, Jin Hakmun and Na Dohyang modified titles or names, making them Korean ones, and translated the whole original works. Shimhyangsanin, Kim Jahye, Park Luweol, on the other hand, accepted the title of Japanese version, ‘Chunhee’, and made a condensed translation.
