우리는 분절음운론의 개념을 원용하여 성조론 기술을 체계화할 수 있는 방법론을 검토하고 나아가 그 방법론 위에서 네 하위방언권별로 기저성조를 설정해 본다. 기저성조의 대비로 방언차를 드러내는 것보다 율동제약의 차이로 방언차를 드러내는 것이 여러모로 바람직하다는 것도 확인한다. 이런 점에서 이 논의는 동남방언의 성조를 새롭게 바라보는 최초의 성과라 할 만하다. L로 시작하는 유리창, 작은아버지 등의 기저성조가 방언권마다 다르다고 하는 것이 일반적이다. 기저성조가 다른 것으로 방언차를 일일이 드러내는 관점일 것이다. 그러나 우리는 하위방언권별 각 어사의 기저성조는 같다고 주장한다. 이것은 방언권별로 공통점이 매우 많음을 뜻한다. 바로 율동제약이 달라지면서 현재와 같은 방언차가 드러나는 것이다. 율동제약이야말로 공통점을 극대화하고 차이점을 명시적으로 드러내는, 큰 의의를 지닌 언어 현상인 것이다.

This paper aims to study on mechanism causing tonal patterns of Kyeongsang-dialect. we explore the best ways toward systematical tone description, by making the most use of notions in segmental phonology. In addition to that, establishing underlying representations of ‘yurichaŋ’ and ‘cagЩnαbəji’ by sub-dialects, we can confirm possibility integrating various tonal processes by means of not underlying representation but metrical constraint. Tonal metrical constraints of Kyeongsang-dialect can be classified three patterns. eg. L1HL in the Western-Kyeongbuk, LH1L in the Western-Kyeongnam, and LH1L0 in the Estern-Kyeongnam. The underlying representation of ‘cagЩnαbəji’ by sub-dialects is same as LLLHL. And it is metrical constraint in each dialect that causing the difference of surface representations.
