본고에서는 전북 방언에서 용언 어간말에 /ㅡ/ 모음이 삽입된 후 어간이 재구조화되는 현상을 통하여 /ㅡ/ 삽입의 환경과 이유에 대해 알아보는 것을 목적으로 한다. /ㅡ/ 삽입 현상은 용언 어간말에 나타나는데, 전북 방언에서는 산발적이기는 하지만 많은 어휘들에서 /ㅡ/ 삽입이 나타난다. /ㅡ/ 삽입은 용언 어간 말음이 경음 또는 유기음일 때 주로 나타나는데, 이것은 활용 시 어간의 말음이 교체되는 것을 저지하여 어간의 의미를 분명하게 하려는 이유에서이다. /ㅡ/ 삽입은 전북 방언에서 용언의 형태론적 범주, 즉 동사인지 형용사인지의 여부에 구애받지 않고, 빈번히 나타난다. 그러나 /ㅡ/ 삽입 후 재구조화는 진행 중에 있으며, 공시적으로 복수기저형을 가지는 경우가 많다.

The purpose of this study was to find out the environment and reason of /ㅡ/ inserting through the phenomenon of /ㅡ/ inserting in Verbal stems in Jeonbuk dialect. In Jeonbuk dialect, lots of verbal stems experience the restructure of underlying forms after /ㅡ/ is inserted and most of them have plural underlying forms publically. /ㅡ/ is inserted in the verbal stems and they are appeared when the stem-final consonant are mainly tense or aspirated. As it prevents the exchange of stem-final phoneme in use, it makes the meaning of the stem clear.
