본 연구는 다양성이 증가하는 한국 사회의 소수자 집단에 대한 관용을 결정하는 요인이 무엇인지 규명하고자 하였다. 보다 구체적으로 본 논문은 단체 참여라는 사회적 자본이 이주 외국인, 북한 이탈주민, 동성애자 등에 대한 사회적 관용에 영향을 미치는지 여부를 실증하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 사회 구성원들이 자신과 다른 집단을 포용하지 않는다면 한정된 사회자원을 배분하는 과정에서 갈등과 긴장이 심화되므로 관용의 결정 요인은 매우 중요한 주제라 할 것이다. 본 논문은 5년간의 사회통합실태조사를 활용하여 분석을 시도하였다. 이를 통해 첫째, 2013년에서 2017년에 이르기까지 한국인의 사회단체 참여 추세와 다양한 사회적 소수자에 대한 관용의 인식 등을 기술하였다. 둘째, 회귀분석 결과 사회적 단체 참여는 유형에 따라 소수자에 대한 사회적 관용에 차별적인 영향력을 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 연도의 변화에 따라 영향 여부와 방향이 변한 참여의 유형도 존재한다는 것을 확인하였다.

This study investigates determinants of social tolerance toward social minority groups in Korean society where diversity is increasing recently. It would be meaningful to identify these factors in that conflict and tension are caused in the political and policy process of the distribution of limited social resources unless the members of society embrace groups different from them. For this purpose, this study focused on social capital as a key determinant of tolerance toward emigrant foreigner, a North Korean defector, and homosexual. Specifically, utilizing large N-survey over the past five years, this study analyzes the relationship between participation in voluntary association and social tolerance. As a result of the analysis, at first, we describe the trend of Korean`s participation in social group from 2013 to 2017 and changing of their perception of tolerance toward various social minorities. Second, he regression analysis shows that social participation has a discriminatory influence on social tolerance, depending on the type of participations and minorities. Third, this study find that the influence of group participation also depends on the change of year rather than on consistency. These results suggest that the role of social capital may not be fixed.
