이 논문은 박태진의 시론이 전후 문학장에서 갖는 의미를 탐구하려는 목적을 지닌다. 박태진은 이중 언어 세대이자 학병 세대로서 탈국가주의에 근거한 세계주의라는 문학적 지향을 지니고 있었다. 그의 문학적 기반은 일본 대학 시절에 경험한 교양주의라는 정신적 토대 아래 놓이며, ‘민족’이라는 기표 대신 세계문학이라는 기표를 지향점으로 삼고 있었다. 박태진은 영어와 불어라는 언어자본을 가진 문인으로서, 일본어로‘이중 번역’된 현대의 레시피 대신 세계문학의 실제 현장에서 현대성을 모국어로 매개하고자 하였다. 그는 전후 한국문학의 현대성이 ‘세계사적 현실’을 내포하는 데서 비롯된다고 보았다. 전후 문학장은 한국의 지식인들이 자신의 이방인성을 인식하고, 현대적 주체로 탄생하고자 하는 노력과 실천의 장이었다. 그는 우리 문학이 세계 모더니티의 구경꾼에서 ‘잠재적 구성원’으로 위치를 바꾸기 위해서 선행해야 할 조건으로 ‘현실성’과 ‘세계성’을 제시하고 있다. 박태진은 서구 현대성의 시간대 안에서 자신의 이방인성을 직접 확인하고 세계 안에서의 우리의 위치를 실감한 시인이었다. 그의 이러한 고유성에 의거해 그는 우리 문단과 세계문단을 매개하는 매개자의 역할을 담당하였다. 이 논문은 박태진의 시론을 대상으로 한국시의 현대성을 위한 진단과 번역론을 살펴봄으로써, 서구 모더니티 매개 자이자 한국시의 현대성을 탐구한 시 이론가로서 그의 문학적 위치를 마련하고자 하였다.

The purpose of this treatise was to explore the meaning of Park Tae-Jin's poetry theory in the Korea's post-war literary field. He was from the generation of bilingual language as well as a student soldier, and literally pursued a cosmopolitan tendency based on post-nationalism. His literary background was built on the spiritual foundation called culturalism he had experienced during his stay in Japan as a university student, and pursued the target of world literature instead of ‘nation’. He was a man of letters equipped with linguistic assets of English and French and sought to mediate world literature of the West via his mother tongue instead of the modern recipe of ‘double translation’ via Japanese. He believed the modernity of the country's post-war literature could come from its inclusion of ‘reality from the perspective of world history’. Prerequisites for the change of the country's position to a potential member of world modernity, he suggested, were ‘reality’ and ‘globality’. Korea's post-war literary field was the one in which the country's intellectuals recognized their foreignness and sought to be reborn as a modern principal entity. Park Tae-Jin was the poet who himself identified his foreignness within the time zone of the Western modernity and poignantly felt our country's position within the globe. Based on this unique orientation and belief, he played a mediating role between Korea's literature and world's literature. This study, which examined Korea's modern poetry and translation theory based on Park Tae-Jin's poetry theory, sought to position his literary status as a mediator of the Western modernity as well as a poetry theorist talking about the modernity of Korean poetry.
