본고는 즉흥적 말하기의 위상과 그 교육적 함의를 고찰하였다. 말하기의 심리적 이론에 비추어 볼 때, 즉흥적 말하기는 개념 마련 부서와 언어 형식주조 부서에서 준비된 말하기와 차별성을 갖는다고 할 수 있다. 즉 이 두 부서에서 즉흥적 말하기는 내용상으로는 개인의 일화기억에 기반하고, 아울러 방법론상으로 절차기억에 의존함으로써 준비된 말하기와 접근 방식이 달랐다고 할 수 있다. 즉흥적 말하기는 그간 교육적으로 제대로 다루어지지 않았다. 이는 즉흥적 말하기가 교육적으로 중요하게 다루어질 수 있는 부분들을 간과하였기 때문이다. 이를 본고에서는 사고의 속성과 일정 부분 관련되는 유창성, 자발성, 창의성의 문제로 구분해서 다루어보았다. 이러한 속성들을 즉흥적 말하기의 교육적 중요성을 부각하는 데 일정한 부면들로 고려될 수 있다.

The paper examined the phases of extemporaneous speaking and its educational implications. In light of the psychological theory of speaking, it can be said that extemporaneous speaking is different from prepared speaking by the conceptual and language formal department. In other words, extemporaneous speaking in these two departments was based on episodic memory and, in addition, on methodologies, on procedural memory, was different from prepared speaking and approach. Extemporaneous speaking has been rarely handled educationally. This is because it overlooked areas where improvisation could be treated as important educationally. We have divided this into problems of fluency, spontaneity, and creativity. These attributes can be considered as sufficient factors to highlight the educational importance of impromptu speech.
