1960년대는 두 개의 혁명이 존재한다. 4월혁명과 5ㆍ16군사 쿠데타가 그것이다. 5ㆍ16군사정권은 4월혁명 이후의 공백을 점유함으로써 탄생한다. 4ㆍ19와 5ㆍ16의 본질은 바로 공백과 탈공백에 있으며, 이는 혁명주체의 부정성(negativity)과 실정성(positivity)의 문제와도 무관하지 않다. 박태순이 응시한 것은 바로 혁명의 공백과 부정성이며, 바로 그것이 5ㆍ16군사정권이 들어선 근본적인 원인이다. 5ㆍ16군사정권은 4월혁명 이후의 공백을 반공이념과 근대화론을 통해 채워나갔으며, 이는 혁명의 공백을 탈공백화하는 것이자 혁명의 부정성을 실정성으로 바꾸는 작업이었다. 반면에 비판적 지식인들은 공백과 부정성의 측면에서 혁명을 사유했으며, 이는 4월혁명을 추상적 관념으로 받아들인 계기가 되었다. 이러한 혁명담론의 분열은 4월혁명에 관한 1960년대 문학이 혁명 당시의 현실을 재현하거나 그 열광에 도취된 문학작품을 제외하고는 대개 혁명의 공백과 부정성의 영향으로부터 벗어날 수 없었다는 사실을 암시하며, 4월혁명의 문학적 형상화가 쉽지 않았던 근본 원인을 드러낸다.

There are two revolutions in the 1960's; the April Revolution(4ㆍ19) and 5ㆍ16 military coup(5ㆍ16). The 5ㆍ16 military regime is born by occupying the vacancy after the April revolution. The nature of 4ㆍ19 and 5ㆍ16 are the very in vacancy and ex-vacancy, that is in the relationship with then egativity and positivity of revolutionary subject. It is the vacancy and negativity of 4ㆍ19 that Park, Tae-Soon gazed. This is a fundamental cause of 5ㆍ16 military regime's advent. 5ㆍ16 military regime filled the vacancy after 4ㆍ19 with anti-communist ideology and modernization(theory of economic development), which was the process of making the vacancy of revolution to be ex-vacated and turning the negativity of revolution into positivity. On the contrary, critical intellectuals scrutinized a Revolution with regard to vacancy and negativity, which became the chance of considering 4ㆍ19 as abstractive concept. This sort of division of revolutionary discourse, being fundamental cause that literary configuration is not easy, suggests that literatures of 4ㆍ19 generally could not escape from the effects of 4ㆍ19's vacancy and negativity with the exception of literature concerning representation of 4ㆍ19 and intoxication with 4ㆍ19.
