목적：본 연구의 목적은 학습부진학생들의 어휘 이해 양상을 살펴보고 그 부진 원인을 밝히는 데 있다. 방법：이를 위해 학습부진학생의 국어 수업을 관찰하고, 학생 면담을 실시하였으며, KISE-BAAT를 통해 어휘 능력을 측정하였다. 이후 위의 과정에서 수집한 자료를 내용분석의 방법으로 분석하였다. 결과：그 결과, 첫째, 학습부진학생들은 사회, 과학과 같은 내용교과의 어휘를 특히 어려워한다는 점, 둘째, 학습부진학생들은 기본 어휘도 많이 부족하다는 점, 셋째, 학습부진학생들은 특정 단어의 유의어를 알고 있더라도 이를 머릿속에서 바로 인출해 내지 못한다는 점, 넷째, 학습부진학생들은 어휘소 상호간의 동질성과 이질성을 파악해야 하는 대립어 파악을 어려워한다는 점을 밝 히었다. 이후에는 이상의 연구 결과들에 대한 원인을 규명하였다. 결론：이상의 연구 결과를 토대로 학습부진학생들을 위한 어휘 교수·학습 방안의 개선방향을 제언하였다.

Purpose：The purpose of this study is to examine the aspect of poor vocabulary comprehension and identify the causes of underachievers. Method s：In order to accomplish this research purpose, Korean language classes of underachievers were observed, student interviews were conducted, and vocabulary abilities were measured through KISE-BAAT. The data collected in the above process was analyzed by the method of content analysis. Results： As a result, firstly, underachievers have difficulty in vocabulary of content subjects such as society and science. Second, underachievers have difficulty in comprehending the meaning of even basic vocabulary. Third, underachievers have difficulty in drawing the synonym of a certain word directly from their head even though they know the synonym. Fourth, underachievers have difficulty in identifying antonym that need to identify the homogeneity and heterogeneity of each vocabulary. In addition, this study analyzed the causes of individual aspect. Conclusion：On the basis of the above research results, this study suggested ways to improve vocabulary teaching and learning methods for underachievers.
