본고는 판소리 등장인물들이 당대 사회의 도덕적 규범을 구현하기 위해 오히려 도덕적 규범을 거스르는 모습들에 주목한다. 판소리 서사에 등장하는 도덕적 규범의 구현 상황에서 개인의 특정한 선택이 가지는 의미는, 거의 같은 의미로 사용되는 도덕(道德, Morality)과 윤리(倫理, Ethics)라는 개념의 세세한 구분을 통해 설명할 수 있다는 것을 본고의 연구목적으로 삼는다. 판소리는 공동체의 절대적 규범인 도덕을 구현하는 서사적 상황 안에서 등장인물 각각이 보여주는 개인적 선택이 절대적인 도덕률과 충돌하면서 드러나는 모순에 집중하고 있다. 이러한 양상은 전승되고 있는 다섯 바탕의 판소리에서 주로 찾아볼 수 있다. 하지만 전승되지 않는 실창판소리는 전혀 다르다. 지켜야 할 공동체의 도덕적 규범이 서사에 제시되지 않기 때문이다. 실창판소리 작품들은 지켜야 할 절대적 도덕규범이 희미한 상태에서 오히려 다양한 개인들의 윤리가 서로 상충하면서, 새로운 사회윤리를 모색하다가 실패하는 것으로 보인다. 판소리가 등장하고 널리 향유되던 조선 후기는 기존의 도덕률이 급변하는 시기였음은 분명하다. 따라서 판소리는 그 당대의 다양한 사회 갈등을 서사 곳곳에서 드러내고 있다. 그 갈등은 변화하지 않으려는 사회적 규범인 도덕과 이 사회적 절대 규범인 도덕이 정말 올바른 것인지를 따지고자 하는 판소리 주인공들의 개인적 윤리의 선택과 그 충돌로 설명해 볼 수 있다.

This paper focuses on the look of Pansori (a musical storytelling performance) characters challenging moral norms to realize the moral norms of contemporary society. It seeks to present that, in the context of implementation of the moral norms appearing in the Pansori narrative, the meaning of a person's particular choice can be explained through a detailed division of the concepts of morality and ethics, which are used to almost imply the same meaning. Pansori focuses on the contradiction that emerges in the narrative context of embodying morality, the absolute norm of the community, as the individual choice of each character collides with absolute morality. This pattern can be found mainly in the five episodes of Pansori being passed down. However, the sound of the missing voice Pansori, which is not passed down, is completely different. This is because the moral norms of the community to be observed are not reflected in the narrative. The sound of the missing voice pansori work seems to fail while seeking new social ethics, and the various ethics of individuals conflict with each other, amidst the absolute moral norms being vague. The late Joseon Dynasty, where Pansori emerged and was widely enjoyed, is clearly a period where the existing morality underwent rapid changes. Accordingly, Pansori reveals the diverse social conflicts in various parts of the narrative. Such conflicts can be explained by individual choice of ethics and their confrontations with Pansori protagonists who want to determine whether morality, a social norm that resists changing, and morals which are absolute social norms, are really right.
