본고는 「사대기」 속 왕위·왕조 교체의 이면에 자리한 ‘이치’를 구체적으로 파악하고 창작의도를 구명(究明)하는 데 목적이 있다. 「사대기」는 순환론적 세계관에 기반을 두었다. 작중 왕위 및 왕조 교체는 날씨와 계절의 변화를 지시하여 나타냈다. 민심의 호오와 무관하게 봄, 여름, 가을, 겨울이 순서에 맞게 바뀌듯 「사대기」 속 왕조는 민심과 상관없이 천리(天理)에 따라 교체되었다. 결과적으로 「사대기」 속 천리는 무정(無情)했다. 황중윤은 사대 뒤 동황제의 후손이 다시 임금이 된 것은 백성의 기억을 말미암았다고 서술함으로써 천리 외에 또 다른 이치가 ‘백성’을 통해 구현된다고 했다. 「사대기」에서 백성은 드러난 역할은 미미했다. 하지만 백성은 정확한 판별과 기억을 담당함으로써 이치를 구현하는 핵심 요소로 그 역할을 했다. 「사대기」 창작 상한선은 1628년(인조 6)이었다. 이 시기는 황중윤이 해남에 유배된 지 5년여가 흘렀을 무렵이었다. 황중윤은 끝 모를 유배기 동안 「사대기」를 썼다. 「사대기」 창작의도는 엄존하는 세상의 이치를 밝혀 직시(直視)하고 이해함으로써 막연한 기대에서 파생된 조급함을 쇄신해 항심(恒心)을 다잡는 데 있었다.

The purpose of this paper is to grasp the ‘logical’ of the throne and dynasty replacement in the “Sahdaeki” and to clarify the author's creative intention. 「Sahdaeki」 expresses the change of season as a throne/dynasty replacement. The change of throne was weather, and the change of dynasty was a seasonal change. As the seasons changed according to the planned celestial irrespective of public sentiment, the change of the throne and dynasty was also independent of public sentiment. As a result, even without virtue, he became a wage, and even a politician who was not punished. However, the people accurately discerned the good wages and remembered the graces of the wages. The descendants of the emperor became kings when the ‘season’ came again because of the exact separation and memory of these people. Since the issue of the taxation that occurred after the war between ‘HuGeum(後金)’ and ‘Chosun(朝鮮)’ was mentioned, the upper limit of the creation of “Sahdaeki” was in 1628. This was around five years after Hwang Joong-yun was exiled to ‘Namhae’ through the ‘coup’. Whangjungyun(黃中允) wrote writing that directly looked at the two sensations: The ruthlessness of the logic of the sky and The accuracy of the people. The creative intention of “Sahdaeki” was to correctly recognize the heavenly reason and to understand the unsatisfactory resistance of the heart.
