「남홍량전」은 조선을 연상시키는 남접역국을 배경으로 하여 전쟁을 통한 영웅들의 활약을 그려 낸다. 「남홍량전」은 아버지, 아들, 손자 대로 이어지는 유기적 구조속에서 의심의 여지도 없이 정확하게 한 인물, 곧 남홍량에게 초점을 맞추고 있는 작품이다. 또한, 「남홍량전」에서는 수많은 전고를 활용한다. 전고들은 인물의 외모나 능력을 강조하거나, 장면이나 상황을 풍부하게 한다. 아울러 전고의 결합을 통하여 서사의 흐름에 맞게 내용을 조절하기도 한다. 특별히, 「남홍량전」에서는 경전이나 역사책의 내용 일부분을 그대로 전재하기도 하는데, 이는 화자의 논리를 강화하는 데 유용하다. 전고의 활용은 단순히 작가의 지적 능력을 드러내거나 혹은 과시하려는 의도로만 읽히지는 않는다. 필요한 전고를 적절한 곳에 두고 활용함으로써, 작품 속에서 여러 가지 효과를 발생시킨다. 문예문도 주목된다. 「남홍량전」의 문예문들은 대부분 서사의 흐름 속에 녹아 들어가 내용을 확장하고 분위기를 강화한다. 하지만 관심이 가는 것은, 서사의 흐름과 그다지 관련이 없는 「간현산간부(簡賢鏟奸賦)」이다. 여기에서는 간신의 폐해와 해결책을 제시하고 있다. 이는 간신들이 나라를 팔아먹고, 백성들은 도탄에 빠진 당시 조선의 시대상과 무관하지 않다. 「남홍량전」에는 과학에서부터 문학에 이르기까지 의론적 대화가 많다. 본고에서는 미처 다루지 못하였다. 아울러 더 많이 살펴보아야 할 전고도 남아 있다. 후속 논의로 이어지기를 기대한다.

It also has the function of adjusting the contents according to the flow of narratives through the combination of an authentic precedents. In particular, 「Namhongryangjeon」 also contains some of the contents of scriptures and history books, which are useful for strengthening the speaker's logic. The use of an authentic precedents is not read simply as an attempt to reveal or show off the intellectual ability of the author. By placing the necessary authentic precedents in the proper place, they produce various effects in the work. Literary and artistic texts are also drawing keen attention. Most of the literary works in 「Namhongryangjeon」 melt into the flow of narratives, expanding the content and strengthening the atmosphere. But what's interesting is the 「Ganhyeon sanganbu(簡賢鏟奸賦」 which has little to do with the flow of narrative. Here It presents the evils and solutions of disloyal subject. This has something to do with the era of Joseon, when its disloyal subject sold off the country and its people were in distress. 「Namhongryangjeon」 has a lot of theoretical dialogue from science to literature.
