The purpose of this study is to examine the graph analysis data of foreign students, to search for errors, and to find guidelines for improving their writing skills. As a result of analyzing the problems in 125 articles written by 89 learners, learners had difficulties both in terms of understanding facts and production (fact-description and opinion-writing). In order to solve these problems and improve the ability of analyzing graphs in foreign students, first, the ‘understanding → production‘ process is necessary. Second, genre recognition for academic writing and thirdly, education for formulaic expression is critically needed. Fourth, the practice of graph analysis needs to be presented as a learner-centered approach. Fifthly, students should be taught how to enhance their ability to select and describe various kinds of graphs that match the nature of data. (Sejong Cyber University)
