This study aims to discover cultural characteristics of popular music and to look through alternatives which can be applied to Korean culture education. This study also tries to examine changes in cultural emotion of Koreans and its social changes through changes in vocabulary appeared in the lyrics of popular culture from 1970s to 2000s based on the cultural characteristic of popular music. This study examined Korean’s emotional aspects which were revealed in the lyrics of popular music and through this, it demonstrated cultural perspective and changed contents of Koreans’ cultural and emotional expression. Consequently, it could be seen that Korean popular music helps learner to critically understand Korean popular culture and it has a high applicability in improving cultural sensitivity . Secondly, it promotes a specific understand concerning Korean culture and society. Thirdly, it made it easier to adapt to Korean society by mitigating culture shock and conflict. Fourthly, it expands Korean use ability of learners since there is a present and live language in popular music.(Yonsei University)
