The purpose of this study is to accurately reflect current dictionary research through carrying out a survey with dictionary users as the subject of study, in order to qualitatively enhance dictionary research within Korean language education studies. Since the KLES dictionary is a dictionary that lists terms by subject, researchers and professors at Korea language were chosen as the subject of study.
The survey questionnaires that make up the core of this study can be largely divided into two parts. The first section addresses the actual conditions surrounding dictionary usage by the questions that were given to the subject of this study, the dictionary users. Questions such as what dictionaries the subjects were currently using, what they were using their dictionaries for, as well as what problems the subjects faced when using their dictionaries, were asked. The second part suggests the subject area for the KLES dictionary that is currently being researched and questions were formulated to assess the importance of the suggested subject area.
Also, to protect the current microstructure of the dictionary, they are composed of items on both appropriacy of headword description order and unrestrictedness in writing complementary measures in description. Through the results of this study, were able to accurately assess the needs of KLES dictionary users.
Above all else, this study is significant in that it deducts to be necessary that for the qualitative enhancement of the KLES dictionary, further study into KLES’s subject area that was decided by consensus of specialists, further study into items that reflect the current research such as the importance of the number of entries classified by subject, and concrete, detailed guidelines for a plan for listings according to subject area and entry must be arranged.
