The most urgent problem for Korean immigrant in the United States is the extension of Korean language class in the junior and high school. There are 91 universities or colleges in which Korean language and culture are thought. More than 60% of those schools have only a few Korean language classes with a few lecturers. They are watching to come the times of extension of the class in the future. In the primary school level, there are more than one thousand Korean Language Schools which are characterized by weekend school. Some of them have financial problems or teachers’ problems. However their are no problem of competition with other language. In junior or high school, there are severe competition among the East Asian countries, Korea, China and Japan in the Unites Sates, especially after the promulgation of the Bush Grant 2004, which gives 6 languages to promote within foreign language to be learned in junior and high school. There are more than 1000 schools which have Chinese language classes, there are more than 700 junior and high schools which have Japanese language classes and there are only 65 schools which have Korean language classes. After the Bush Grant 2004, Chinese in United States are enthusiastic to extend learning Chinese. But Koreans in the United States are not well known the Bush Grant 2004 and less enthusiastic for the extension of Korean classes in junior or high school. (Seoul National University)
