This paper reviews the grammar-translation method and the communicative approach, which are representative methods for teaching Korean as a second language. Also, it suggests a constructive way of grammar teaching from the perspectives of both text and teaching method. The following five items are mentioned as important teaching methods.
① The goal of teaching is to improve communicative competence.
② Deductive/Inductive teaching and evincive/allusive teaching should be used selectively.
③ Efficiency and suitability should be equally recognized.
④ The PPP model and TTT model should be used as basic models for the class.
⑤ An appropriate teaching method, such as the consequence-centered, process-centered, or function-centered methods should be selected based on teaching goals and progress levels.
