이름은 누구에게나 자신을 표현하는 가장 기본적인 수단이 될 뿐만 아니라, 가족을 비롯한 공동체에 대한 소속감을 갖게 하는 것이다. 더불어 신뢰감 형성의 토대가 되기도 하고 제반 사회적 관계 형성에 있어서도 필수적인 사항이기 때문에 인간의 정체성 형성에 있어서도 가장 기본적인 요소와 연결된다고 할 것이다. 본 연구의 목적은 스웨덴인이 주로 사용했던 이름의 변화 추이를 통해 이름과 정체성의 상관성에 관해 의미 있는 시사점을 도출하는데 있다. 주된 연구는 각 시기별 스웨덴인의 주요 이름의 의미와 성격에 대해 분석하는 과정을 통해 진행하였다. 연구 결과 스웨덴인의 이름의 변화추이는 다양한 역사적·문화적 변수에 의해 영향을 받았음을 파악할 수 있었으며, 그에 따라 중층적인 차원의 의미와 성격이 반영되어 있다는 점을 확인할 수 있었다. 아울러 정체성 표현의 수단으로써 현재에도 지속적으로 변화하고 다양해지고 있음을 볼 수 있었다.

The personal name is not only the most basic means of expressing oneself to anyone, it also gives them a sense of belonging to the community, including their families. In addition, it is said to be linked to the most basic elements in the formation of human identities, as it is a basis for forming a sense of social trust and relationships. The purpose of this study is to derive meaningful implications for the correlation between names and identities through changes in names that were mainly used by Swedish people. The main study was conducted through the process of analyzing the meaning and character of the major names of Swedish people in each period. As a result of the study, it was found that the trend of Swedish name change was influenced by various historical and cultural variables, and it was confirmed that the meaning and character of the multiple level were reflected. In addition, it can be seen that it is continuously changing and diversifying as a means of expressing identity.
