오늘날 코로나바이러스 감염증 19 에 의한 팬데믹의 원인은 한 마디로 이기주의와 인간중심주의에 있다. 창조세계에 대한 의식과 이해도 인간의 자아(ego)를 우선으로 고려해 왔던 서구 자본주의 국가의 번영주의와 한국의 기복신앙은 인간을 제외한 생태계 구성 주체들을 객체화하여 그들을 도구적인 존재로 만드는 데 기여해 왔다. 이는 지금의 기후와 생물종 다양성의 위기뿐만 아니라 코로나 19 의 근본적인 원인이 되었다. 우리가 바이러스에 대한 관점을 다르게 가져본다면 인류가 비록 코로나 19로 인해 극심한 공포와 혼란 가운데 놓여 있지만 바이러스도 분명히 하나님의 피조물이라는 것이다. 지구상의 가장 작은 생명의 특성을 지닌 단순한 구조의 바이러스이지만 그의 단순함, 비움, 절제, 그리고 멈춤의 생태적 특성들을 역설적으로 인류가 배울 필요가 있다. 그동안 인류는 빈곤과 질병에서부터 해방된 것처럼 자만했고, 풍요와 편리에 도취되어 지구를 자신들의 소유물인 것처럼 남용하고 훼손하여 도달한 것이 코로나 19 의 현실이다. 본 논문은 코로나 19 로 인한 글로벌 혼돈의 시대를 맞이하여 기독교의 창조세계에 대한 의식의 전환이 무엇보다 필요하다는 점을 강조하고자 한다. 우리는 인류세로 대표되는 그동안의 창조세계에 대한 도구적인 가치를 우선으로 인정하는 이기적인 이해가 지나치게 공리주의적이며 인간사회 중심적이었던 점을 반성해야 한다. 또한 생명망으로 생태계를 이해하는 생태중심적인 이해를 넘어, 상호관계성을 중시하는 생태 공동체로서의 생태윤리가 창조 의식의 전환에 기여할 것으로 본다. 이를 통해 본 논문은 성례전적인 공유지(sacramental commons)로서의 생태적 창조 의식(ecological creation consciousness)을 갖고 지구 공동체의 통합적인 존중과 건강을 이루는 새로운 형태의 기독교윤리를 제안한다.
The cause of the pandemic by COVID-19 lies in egoism and anthropocentrism. The prosperity theology of Western capitalist countries and blessing-based secular faith in Korea have also prioritized human ego over creation, reducing its value to only human resources by objectifying other members of the ecosystem except humans. So they have been the fundamental causes of global climate crisis and biodiversity reduction. If we take a different view on the virus, it is clear that the virus is a creation of God though the humankind who now lies in the midst of extreme fear and chaos due to COVID-19. Although the virus has an extremely simple structure with the smallest characteristics of life on Earth, humankind needs to ironically learn its ecological characteristics of simplicity, emptiness, self-control, and stopping. In the meantime, humans have been self-confident as if they had been liberated from poverty and disease, intoxicated with affluence and convenience. They are abusing and damaging the earth as if it were their own property, which eventually led to the current crisis. This paper emphasizes the need for a transition in consciousness about creation in the face of global chaos caused by COVID-19. I reflect on the fact that the self-centered understanding of creation has been utilitarian and human society-centered, understanding ecosystem as a dense and stable web of life. I also emphasize ecological ethics as an ecological community. Furthermore, I would like to propose a new kind of Christian ethics by developing ecological creation consciousness as sacramental commons to have a vision that achieves an integrated respect and health of the global community.
