코로나19 사태는 역내 보건 안보의 위협 요인이자 신남방정책의 이행에 있어서 큰 도전으로 부상했다. 이 글에서는 코로나19 감염병 사태에 따른 아세안 공동체에 대한 영향을 살피고 신남방정책의 향후 전개에 대한 주요 시사점을 도출하고자 한다. 이를 위해 개별국가 및 아세안 차원에서의 코로나19 사태에 대한 대응을 살피고자 한다. 둘째, 아세안 공동체 건설에 있어 코로나의 영향을 정치안보, 경제, 사회적 이슈를 중심으로 검토하고자 한다. 끝으로 코로나 사태의 대응과 신남방정책의 전개에 있어 인간안보 개념의 필요성을 지적하고 이를 위해 신남방정책이 지역 다자협의체와 연계를 통한 지역주의 협력에 기여할 수 있는 방안을 모색하고자 한다.

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic poses great challenges not only for ASEAN’s health security but also for the establishment of the ASEAN Community and the implementation of the South Korea’s New Southern Policy (NSP). This article aims to draw implications for practice and policy of the NSP by considering the impact of COVID-19 on the ASEAN Community. After reviewing the responses to the Covid-19 of ASEAN and its member states, it considers major political, economic, and social challenges facing ASEAN today. The article presents policy recommendations that the concept of human security needs to be incorporated into the NSP in a way which can contribute to East Asian regionalism through further institutional collaboration.
