This research attempted to explore the relationship between the social dominance orientation and multi-cultural acceptance in order to understand the origin of bias and discrimination toward immigrants. 460 college students in Korea were examined to investigate how social dominance orientation was effected on multi-cultural acceptance and how the socio-demographic characteristics of the respondents had affects on their multicultural acceptance.
The results showed that first, the higher the social dominance orientation of the college students, the lower their multicultural acceptance. Secondly, people with strong social dominance orientation tended to be politically right-wing, and to perceive themselves as upper-middle-class. In terms of biological sex, men showed stronger social dominance orientation than women. Thirdly, those who were more receptive to multi-culturalism were found to be politically left-leaning. Differences in multicultural acceptance by gender, religion and household income didn't get any statistical significance.
