코로나19의 세계적인 확산이 야기한 초유의 정치적, 경제적 위기와 그에 대한 사회정치적인 대응들로 점철된 팬데믹과 뉴노멀 시대의 의미에 대해 서구의 저명한 철학자들은 논박을 주고받으며 각자의 의견과 통찰을 내놓았다. 하지만 대체로 과거의 철학적 개념과 담론의 반복에 불과했던 이들의 논의는 실제 상황의 심각성을 간과하거나 연관된 문제들의 복잡성을 오독하였다. 본고에서는 팬데믹과 뉴노멀의 시대를 특징짓는 새로운 현실의 조건들을 확인하고 팬데믹과 뉴노멀에 관한 담론의 허구성을 비판적으로 살펴본 후 이에 대한 서구의 철학적 논의의 한계인 개념화와 추상화의 문제점들을 고찰하고자 한다. 이를 통해 코로나 19와 같은 전 지구적 위기가 상시화 될 미래에서 필요로 하는 새로운 철학은 정확한 현실인식과 유연하고 확장적인 사유의 물질적 전회를 통해 존재와 세계의 비인간적 작인들의 의미와 기능에 대한 통찰이어야 한다는 것이 본고의 결론이다.

Prominent Western philosophers have participated in a heated discussion of the significance of the Pandemic and New Normal era characterized by a series of unprecedented political and economic crises brought up by the global spread of COVID-19 and sociopolitical responses to them. Those philosophes, however, have tended to merely repeat the existing philosophical concepts and discourses, disregarding the seriousness of reality and misreading the complexity of interlocking issues. The aim of this essay is to identify the new conditions that are characteristic of the Pandemic and New Normal era, and then critically examine the fictitious discourse of the notions of Pandemic and New Normal, so as to delve into the problems of conceptualization and abstraction that are the limitations of Western philosophical inquiry. The conclusion is that a new philosophy for our future should require a material turn predicated upon flexible and extensive thought as well as a precise sense of reality, thereby unveiling the meaning and function of nonhuman agencies of humans and the world.
