언어는 사고와 의사소통 행위의 매개이자 국어교육의 목표인 동시에 방법이다. 학습자의 국어 능력 발달에 영향을 미치는 가정배경의 영향이 상당한데도 국어교육에서 이에 대한 실증적인 연구가 부족하다. 본고에서는 <서울교육종단연구 2010> 초4패널 1∼9차년도 데이터를 활용하여 9년간 모든 조사에 참여한 2,850명의 초4∼고3 시기의 국어 학업성취도 추이를 바탕으로 가정배경의 영향력을 연도별로 분석하였다. 그 결과 가구소득 및 부모학력과 성취도는 전 기간에 걸쳐 성취도와 유의한 상관관계를 나타냈다. 또 양친가정과 비양친가정 사이의 성취도 격차는 전혀 좁혀지지 않았고 초6 시기에 그 격차가 더욱 커져 가족구조에 따른 성취도 격차도 확인되었다. 한편 가정배경이 국어 학업성취도에 미치는 영향을 다중회귀모형을 이용해 분석한 결과 부모학력이 가장 지속적이고 체계적인 격차를 유발하고 있었으며 가정배경의 설명력은 중3 시기에 가장 작지만 직후 고1 시기에 가장 크게 나타났다. 전술한 연구결과를 중심으로 학교 및 가정에서의 교육적 개입 방안에 대한 시사점과 후속 연구를 위한 제언을 하였다.

Although the impact of the family background that affects students' development of Korean language is considerable, empirical research on this is lacking in Korean language education. This study used 1^st to 9^th data of the primary 4^th Panel of the Seoul Educational Longitudinal Study of 2010(SELS: 2010- 2018) to examine achievement gap by family background such as household income, family structure, and parent education level. As a result, household income, parents' academic background and achievement were significantly correlated over the entire period. In addition, the achievement gap between the two-parent and the non-two-parent families has not narrowed at all, and the gap has widened in the 6^th grade. On the other hand, an analysis of the impact of family background on Korean achievement using a multiple linear regression model showed that parents' educational level was the most continuous and systematic gap factor. Moreover, the influence of family background was found to be the lowest in the 6^th grade and the highest in the 10^th grade. Based on the above findings, suggestions were made on how to intervene in education in schools and homes.
