The development of communicative competence in a context of teaching a foreign language requires the realization of appropriate and authentic tasks. Through a qualitative-descriptive study we analyze the communicative strategies of written interactions that Korean students develop in the communication by email with native speakers, and we show the adequacy of the use of this digital medium as a continuous activity outside the classroom, especially within a non-immersion learning context.

The linguistic and cultural varieties of the Spanish language have traditionally dominated the teaching and learning of Spanish as a foreign language (SFL). Due to the influence of the Common European Framework of Reference and the Curriculum Plan of the Instituto Cervantes, it has become imperative for SFL educators to utilize the linguistic diversity of Latin America. In most cases, course textbooks determine the content of education. This study seeks to analyze the linguistic and cultural varieties of Latin America in the four versions of Aula, the SFL textbooks published by Difusión. Aula internacional (2005) dealt with Latin American culture as a separate activity. Aula latina (2005) focused on Mexican culture. Unfortunately, linguistic diversity was not well-documented in either textbook. In contrast, Spanish cultural variety is not only present in the micro-tasks in the lessons but provides the context for communication in Aula internacional N. E. (2013). Produced with the support of the Colombian government, Aula America (2018) includes not only the cultural diversities of Latin America, but also linguistic varieties, such as vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar.

In the present work I propose to establish a new manual of conjugation of Spanish verbs to Korean students from the phonetic and morphological point of view, not in terms of their historical changes. Considering a lot of mistakes of vowel change that are usually presented to Korean students, I will look for simple and easy handling for the conjugation of Spanish verbs so that they do not commit the same mistakes specially in the conjugation of the present progressive, the simple past tense and the present subjunctive. In order to avoid some discussions about such vowel change, I have consulted to Dictionary of Real Academia Española. On the other hand, if we can get closer to derive some rules that serve to conjugate the present progressive, the simple past tense and the present subjunctive, most irregular verbs that have shown the peculiar vowel change so far can be treated as regular verbs. Above all, our manual of conjugations of the Spanish verbs presented in this article aims to be a better practical instrument for Korean students to have the ability to change verbs at a level similar to that of native speakers of Spanish, when they change the infinitive verbs to the present progressive, the simple past tense and the present subjunctive.

The aim of this paper is to provide a comprehensive account of the characteristics of Spanish CLLD. Specifically, I discuss two things. Firstly, I focus on identifying the nature of the resumptive pronoun. Secondly, I try to account for why CLLD exhibits typical and non-typical properties of A'-movement at the same time. For the first goal, I compare the resumptive pronoun appearing in relative clauses with the one appearing in CLLD. Based on the fact that they are very different in some respects, I suggest that they are different in nature: the resumptive pronoun in relative clauses is a PF-gap filler, whereas the resumptive pronoun in CLLD is a determiner. For the second goal, I present a new structure for CLLD which includes the movement of a null operator to [Spec,CP]. I demonstrate that this structure enables us to account for the dual properties of CLLD. Based on the fact that a null operator behaves on a par with an overt operator with respect to syntactic island effects, but it behaves differently from an overt operator with respect to subject-verb inversion, multiple appearances in [Spec,CP], the WCO effect and the licensing of parasitic gaps, I argue that the two conflicting properties shown by CLLD are closely related to the movement of the null operator. In other words, it is the two opposing aspects of the null operator that cause both the typical properties of A'-movement and the non-typical properties of A'-movement.

La Estrella de Sevilla, one of the most representative Spanish playes written in the 17th century, is a work that had provoked a continuous controversy regarding who the original author is in the previous century. Among many scholars, whether the original author of this play is Lope or Claramonte still remains to be answered to this day. Aside from whether or not Claramonte is the original author of this play, the fact is that it is quite problematic to consider Lope the original author of this play. As far as this problem is concerned, Professor Alfredo Rodríguez and many other scholars, through proposing literary, technical and lexical grounds, contended that Lope is not the original author. However, for the hypothesis that it may be problematic to consider Lope the original author of this play to be more convincing, it is necessary to bring up a problem from more of a comprehensive perspective. However, to do so, it is necessary to compare La Estrella de Sevilla with other representative tragic works by Lope such as El castifgo sin venganza and El caballero de Olmedo from the perspective of the Aristotelian tragedy. In such tragic works by Lope who claimed to stand for Aristotelianism, some of the most distinctive characteristics of an Aristotelian tragedy such as inevitable destiny and main characters’ voluntary resistance are explicitly revealed. However, in La Estrella de Sevilla, such characteristics are almost never revealed. This is expected to serve as another decisive ground that convincingly supports the hypothesis contended by many scholars that Lope may not be the original author of La Estrella de Sevilla.

In the 17th century Spanish social atmosphere, Pedro Calderon de la Barca actively introduced the materials of Greek and Roman mythology into his plays. The pagan classic mythical characters of the Calderon’s play would have been a shock to the audience at the time. When Calderon sublimated the myth of Cupido and Psyche to the theme of the play, the Christian allegories which Calderon borrowed, “improved the imagination and intellectual experience” to the audience. While using key materials from Greek and Roman mythology, he took Catholic ideas in the same way as the biblical allegories. Thus, Calderone’s sacramental act is a compromise in the use of materials. Calderon showed the Catholic faith excellently through the veiled allegory of God, that is, the invisible Cupid in the play Psyche and Cupid. In Comparing the beliefs of other religions in conflict with Catholic faith during the Counter-Reformation, Canlderon marked the zenith of propaganda literature, which effectively demonstrated the mystery of the Holy Communion, a unique doctrine of Catholicism.

The Spanish civil war ended in 1939, however the dictatorial regime of General Franco survived until his death in 1975. The transition toward democracy did not mean a clear break with the dictatorial regime. The communists and the socialists agreed to amnesty for crimes of Franco’s regime and to focus on a common future by the process of cultural forgetting. However, since the turn of the millennium the generation of grandchildren has been engaged in recuperating the memory repressed of the civil war and the post war repression of dictatorial regime. Antonio Muñoz Molina gives voice to victims with the acts of writing considered as affiliative postmemory engagement. The aim of this article is to examine the aspects of transmission of trauma across generations and the representation of trauma in the postmemorial generation in the novel El jinete polaco(1991). We argue that how the postmemory is distinguished from history by a deep personal connection and from memory by a generational distance. Especially, it is focused that the postmemory is a form of intimate familarity with the past of ancestors mediated through recollections but through an imaginative investment. With a media of memory such as pictures, songs and photographs, the postmemorial generation creates the intergenerational relationship to distant past and reconstructs the past of ancestors. In this analysis, it is demonstrated that this novel becomes an intersubjective transgenerational space of remembrance.
