Korean Language and Literature in International Context 31. Vocabulary is the major tool in communication. But in Korean as a Foreign/Second Language Education we have not prepared any basic rules for teaching vocabularies and given attention to it actually in present. Therefore we need to look at the education methods and contents of Korean vocabulary. As a part of them this study aims to discuss teaching contents and methods of Korean word formation, focusing on adjective suffix, `-seureop-`, `-dap-`, `-rop-`. Suffix, `-seureop-`, `-dap-`, `-rop-` form derivational adjectives with each proper meaning relatively productively in Modern Korean. And because of having an interrelation with meanings reciprocally they can combine with same bases. Especially, because of great productivity `-seureop-` put in position which another suffixes are used in Modern Korean. As educators teach these contents, they have to consider learner levels. So I present teaching contents and methods in each grade, and propose a syllabus.

The purpose of this study is to investigate on the properties of the sentence structure and the constituent of Korean children`s speeches before 24 months. If children`s sentences are generalized down to sentence structure with the exception of constituents, language acquisition competence of childhood isn`t analyzed properly, because children`s utterance include a part of all sentence. From this point of view, we analyzed the sentence structure and the constituent at the same time. In children`s speech, the construction of a sentence is divided into three classes; the modification, predication and parallel construction. Of the modification constructions, the nominal phrase is acquired prior to the verbal phrase. The predication construction is divided into five types; the copula sentence(지정사 구문), the existence verb sentence(존재사 구문), the transitive verb sentence(타동사 구문), the intransitive verb sentence(자동사 구문), the adjective sentence(형용사 구문). We analyzed each construction and the constituent in detail. And the only one example represented in parrel construction is `엄마하고 아빠하고`.

The Book of Gamtong(感通) of Samgukyusa(三國遺事) consists of stories telling about Buddhist transcendental experiences such as Gameung(感應) and Shintong(神通). They understand those transcendental phenomena always happen because of Banya(般若) in Buddhism. The Hyangga(鄕歌) works of the Book of Gamtong are the manifestation of Banya, which is also called wisdom or awakening. Such kind of awakening is the decisive cause of the mysterious and miraculous events. Thus the readers can study the awakening and its implications by appreciating the Hyangga works. “Wonwangsaengga(願往生歌)” throws a question about the true meaning of emptiness. The poet discovers self-extinction in belief and faith, where he also find the possibility for his salvation. In “Hyeseongga(彗星歌)”, the poet is searching for the ways to rescue himself by realizing that the world is nothing but fiction having nothing at all in it except for illusions. And the author “Jemangmaega(祭亡妹歌)” finds the world of new possibilities beyond life and death based on the insight that the world is an illusion. The Hyangga works in the Book of Gamtong are not free from mythical or sorcerous ideas. Despite that, they overcome the mythical elements discovering salvations or transcendence inside human beings rather than the outside, which makes them very distinctive of other Hyangga works.

Gosangugok-sihwabyeong(고산구곡시화병) is the twelve-folded screens which created in 1803 and each screen is composed of 3 parties. This twelve-folded screens seems to be an intentional artifact of Andong-Kimmun(안동 김문) which has Kimjosun(김조순) for its central chair when the structure and format of it is examined. On the first screen, there is YulKok`s < Sanjungjeukgyeosi(산중즉경시) >, and < Gosangugokga(고산구곡가) > and other three poetries are displayed from the second to eleventh`s screens. This kind of disposition is based on the way which Songsiyeol(송시열) and other Noron(노론) group`s literary men had created from the late 17th century to the early 18th century. On the last twelfth screen, there is < Seokdamgugoksi(석담구곡시) > of Kimchangheup (김창흡). The arrangement of the twelve screens reflects the fact that the genealogy of the school of Gihohakpa(기호학파) had been followed by the order of `Leei(이이)→Songsiyeol(송시열)→Kimchangheup(김창흡)` and this arrangement was a kind of symbolic artifact to make the schools foundation clear.

This study presents a review of “Gogeumgagokjib” of Namchangmun-gobon and introduces how to overcome the limitations of the previous anthology researches and what misprints were corrected. The Namchangbon is the third version copy of “Gogeumgagokjib” and provides very important data to solve the research questions raised in the previous studies. The empirical reconsideration of the data led to the following results ; “Gogeumgagokjib” was a song collection whose publisher was not known and showed the song culture of the middle and late 18th century. By analyzing the categorization system, “Dangaishibmok”, and the lyrics, it was found out that the unfamiliarity and originality of “Gogeumgagokjib” reflected the publication intentions and the thematic concerns. The collection of new lyrics, alterations to the existing lyrics, and the experimental trials were the major indication of the originality of “Gogeumgagokjib” and the proof that the song culture of late Chosun was full of diverse tastes and heterogeneous tendencies. “Gogeumgagokjib” is an anthology that has critical implications for the consciousness system of the people living in the 18th century.

This study is an analysis of Namkub`s 「Byungjaillok(丙子日錄) 」. This reference is written by Namkub who escorted the King Injo to Namhan Mount. Fortress Wall and the title Byungjaillok(丙子日錄) are correct. There are four different versions of this reference which contains a `diary` and records of `accomplishment`. As tracing back each version, we found that the reference was made by two channels. The motivation was the pain he experienced throughout the warfare. It was intended to reflect the fault and pain of the past history. I`ve looked into the structure and contents of the diary part and accomplishments. The diary is written chronological form based on his personal experiences and this became a good storybook. It also contains a considerable tension which is needed to unfold the story. There is also a message based on criticism against spoiled politics and the horrible war. The intention of the writer is effectively displayed through an objective descriptive style. The accomplishment part is written according to incident of several figures who appear in many other books. It is unique since rather than mentioning his own opinion he tries to write down the facts. The objective viewpoint against each heroic figure gives message to the readers.

By way of mixing heterogeneous voices in modern poetry, Kim So-wol(김소월) created the poetic discourse of negating the colonial modernity. It was one of the alternative voices which could recall the residual culture which had been repressed by the dominant culture, and reveal the barbarousness that all cultural records and historical process had concealed, and disrupt the identity of colonial discourse internally. So I think Kim So-wol`s poetic discourse can arouse a lot of reader`s sympathy today. In this paper, I attempted to evaluate Kim Sowol`s three early works, “The Street of Seoul”(서울의 거리), “Majusuk”(마주석), “Kunginchang”(궁인창), which were discovered recently by the magazin “Hyundaemunhak” (현대문학). “The Street of Seoul”(서울의 거리) shows the inward landscape of the marginal man who was able to select neither the traditional world nor the cononial-modern world. And in this work, it proves that Kim So-wol`s revolving to Traditionalism came from the extreme sense of alienation and despair of the colonial intellectuals. Especially “the Poetic I” in this work shows us the split of vision and identity because of inability to adapt himself to the colonial-modern society. I think that these aspects of the work could be found in Jung Jiyong`s poetry written in late 1920`s again. But Unfortunately Kim So-wol did not persue this critical way of expressing the colonial world any more. It was the expressing the Voice flowing out from the horizon of tradition that Kim So-wol concerned. In other word, He selected the Traditionalism instead of the sensitive description of Modernity and the critical approach to Modernity. In Kim So-wol`s Traditionalism poems, the audible is more important than the visible, and the transcendental world is more important than the phenomenal world. This revolving to Traditionalism can be found more clearly in the works, “Majusuk”(마주석), “Kunginchang”(궁인창). In the work Majusuk”(마주석), Kim So-wol shows us the nostalgia toward the original world that can be captured only in the form of shadow. In this work, the poetic “I” rediscovered the ancestor`s soul. It shows that Kim So-wol wanted to express the voice of the others who could not be erased by the colonial discourse. And in the work “Kunginchang”(궁인창), Kim So-wol prepared the way of mixing the voice of tradition flowing out from the horizon of modern times into lyrical poetry. So we can say that the voice of tradition in Kim So-wol`s poetry, especially in “Chohon”(초혼) was formed in this way

This article is aimed at examining the reason that why poems on department store by Yi Sang, Kim Gi-rim, Kim Gwang-gyun had a unique form, avant-garde style. Being based the relation cultural semiology with poetics, we can understand that reason successfully. Yi Sang`s avant-garde poem, “AU MAGASIN DE NOUVEAUTES” began with a chain of sentence having several `of`s; “a square of the inside of a square of the inside of a square of the inside of a square of the inside of a square(四角의內部의四角의內部의四角의內部의四角의內部의四角)”. We call this sentence style the uroboros-expression. The uroboros-expression has the effect of demolishing the border of two concepts and deferring it`s final meaning. This expression is a Yi Sang`s favorite style. Why this expression had emerged in poems on department store? Cultural semiology will give to us the answer. The uroboros-expression came from a labyrinthic form and the arrangement of department store which all were cut down by square figure. Cultural-semiology gave Yi Sang`s avant-garde poetry concrete forms and senses. The metaphysics of department store come from confusing experiences by following a labyrinthic guideline in department store is similar to the poetics of avant-garde arts. So poems on department store had a similar style, regardless of poet`s intention.

This paper investigates the mythical images found in the novels of Choi In-hun. The specific works studied include “Su,” “Guwunmong” and “Seoyugi,” each of which either shows the mythical images very clearly or hides them away into the context. The key of the narrative development in “Su” is the myth of Pan, who is a demigod. Being incarcerated in a mental institution thanks to his wife, “I” is nothing but a mad man telling about his life at the loony bin. His story contains his criticism of the reality and cold attitude toward his wife. As Pan with such a love for music gradually turns into a man of violent character due to his wife that becomes stone every night, “I” turns into a mad man because of his wife`s change of mind. “Guwunmong” takes the myth of Theseus and his escaping from the labyrinth and alters it to its end. The works reveals the characteristics of a labyrinth text in the repeating plots, montage, the Matryoshka closed space, dream mechanism, and images of the characters, which all also hint at the fact that the main character keeps failing to find an exit out of the closed labyrinth. It is the characters that most of the repeating plots are allocated to. The hero Dok Go-min doesn`t have the Ariadne Thread and even has the images of a mad man and Pharmakos, inevitably failing to find a way out. The repetition of plots and montage are the tools the author used to disclose the irregularities of the reality that`s hard to reproduce with realist techniques from the diversified viewpoints in combination with the fantasy. And finally “Seoyugi” has the Odyssey myth in the center of the narrative development. The journey of Odyssey to his home Ithaca after the Trojan War was adopted and altered to fit the plot of Dok Go-jun`s going back home. His journey to his home W is a fantasy world and delayed by the great people that he encountered in the other world and the stationmaster at the Station Seokwangsa. His Penelope is the women that gave him the “sexual experience at a shelter.” But when he`s back at home, his trauma of “self-criticism” beats down the “woman from the shelter,” which implies how much of an individual`s subjecthood can be damaged by the oppression of ideology.

The Labor Novel has not been founding its appropriate site in our literary history even though more than 20 years have passed; neither the appreciation of labor novel has not ended nor it has been on the process. The appreciations of labor novel done recently are not satisfactory as most of them are done by the critics of those times when labor novel had made issue. Therefore, there is nothing novel about the critics` latest comments. They could be an overstatement viewed by the past or a warning statement of not disconnecting with our literary history in terms of recent situation. In other words, people who were for labor literature in the past still stay in that area and people who have kept a distance from it from the beginning cannot approach to labor novel. Now it is time to think over how we fix position of labor novel in our literary history. It is naturally important and has a significant meaning to explain the meaning of labor novel according to the past times. By the way, talking about the labor novel with only the view of times` reflection is not enough. Literary meaning should be more than the mirror of times. With point of this view, labor novel should be considered as a completed narrative. This thesis tried to find out the meaning of labor novel`s being in the formation novel or formation narrative. Formation in terms of an individual`s awakening was not only possible in the dawning of bourgeois. I tried to reconsider the labor novel in terms of laborer`s formation-people usually call it awakening-in this thesis.
