Interaction and contact are the requirements of social life. People frequently experience the appearance of strangers on several individual and community levels and psychological and physical levels. Furthermore, people show themselves as the stranger identity to other individuals or societies. They are general psychological and social phenomenon experienced by people. So those elements have been described in various forms. Tale is one of the representative forms. With five tales including “Jangjamot Legend”, the representative oral epic in Korea as the texts, this paper investigated the dual psychology of residents against strangers, fear and hospitality, and psychological mechanism through which a god is created. To this end, history and ethics(religion) elements were extracted from tales to investigate only the psychological phenomenon which might occur in general social life. ‘Flood’ and ‘taboo’, the main themes of researches on tales up to now, were excluded from the discussion in this paper because they were based on existence of god and religion. Several layers of psychological horror were applied to formation and inheritance of “Jangjamot Legend.” While it doesn``t keep its original form now, strangers have been continuously appearing in various forms and the fear of people against strangers never reduces. In addition, the mechanism has been more complicated and skillful. We have to disclose the fallacy by directly investigating the mechanism distorting our life. The analysis on ‘Jangjamot Legend’ is a kind of exploration to diagnose our life in modern days.

It’s very common idea that “Taepyeongcheonha” written by Chae Man-sik in 1930s succeed the tradition of Pansori narrative. This study aims to confirm the error of this common idea and represcribe the literary aspect of “Taepyeongcheonha”. The dominant logic of the existing research about this topic is as follows. ; “Taepyeongcheonha” is the successor of Pansori narrative from a perspective of the mode of narration. Because Pansori narrative and “Taepyeongcheonha”. share the similar narrative feature for example the oral style and free indirect discourse. But the oral style concluding infinitive maker and interjection, oral final ending almost don’t exist in Pansori saseol. It’s rare actualization is so arbitrary and extemporaneous. The direct presentation of writer is the same. The free indirect discourse is very universal speech mode in Pansori narrative. But it is not a exclusive feature of the Pansori narrative but a common narrative mode in modern novels. Additionally free indirect discourse in Taepyeongcheonha” is different from Pansori narrative in that narrator’s voice is overlap with the voice of malefactor. Since free indirect discourse in Pansori narrative is actualized in the case of hero or good character representing the expectation of community. In short, common idea that “Taepyeongcheonha” succeed the tradition of Pansori narrative is based on only the universal discourse or very arbitrary and extemporaneous. So this study intend to prescribe the style of “Taepyeongcheonha” as storytelling. In the field of storytelling, oral speech act, editor’s comment, free indirect discourse, direct presentation of storyteller is very general way of telling. Additionally, it can be said that Pansori narrative and “Taepyeongcheonha” have familial similarity in a collateral line.

This study aimed to develop a debate teaching module which will be useful in strengthening college students’ communication and collaboration skills and coming up with the optimum problem-solving approach. For this, 26 debate teaching constructs were set by referring to previous studies on debate education and ‘standard agenda.’ After accepting experts’ opinions on the importance of these 26 debate teaching constructs using Delphi technique, the final 20 constructs were selected. With the 20 constructs, the three steps of ‘proposition selection - discussion for debate - problem solving) were established, and a standardized debate procedure comprised of 10 unit activities was developed. Then, the teaching module was tested in the communication curriculum designed for freshmen. It is anticipated that the debate teaching module would bring the following effects: First, the debate teaching module is a collaborative module which pursues learner-centered participatory education which produces propositional or procedural knowledge through debate or discussion. Therefore, the course itself can be used as an approach to socialization. Second, the debate teaching module facilitates convergence and communication among fields of study. Students with different background knowledge and interest can experience interpersonal, academic major and cultural convergences while exchanging and sharing opinions through standardized discussion. Third, a feasible development procedure for the debate teaching module can be the guidelines in the development of a new teaching module. Since the effects of the teaching module were confirmed through practice by accepting previous studies and experts’ opinions in a reasonable manner, they could be useful data for the development of diverse teaching modules.

This thesis explores the following issues; 1) the current writing education should proceed from the form of writing which focuses on ‘the first-person narrative’ in the course of establishing subjects and emphasizing self-realization to the form of writing which attempts to think seriously of the idea of other(ness) and community; 2) it should reflect humanistic insights on the essence of human and life; 3) in universities which act as the center of liberal-art education, writing education, faced with the reality where personality rapidly collapses, should seek to meet social and educational demands in many ways. Writing education at universities should be transformed from ‘isolated writing’ that uses ‘independent (isolated) person, I’ and the world in its own way to ‘sharing (dividing but sharing) writing’ that uses ‘multi-person, we.’ This writing is based on the idea that ‘I’ corresponds to ‘You-I,’ in other words, ‘common existence’ where community existence tries to share its being and life with others. However, it is not just to make a completely new theory but rather to re-establish original dignity of writing. Concerning the writing called ‘community-oriented writing,’ this thesis aims to build a theoretical framework to make a general theory and specific educational methodologies. ‘Community-oriented writing’ is a ‘sharing writing’ founded upon human as ‘common existence.’ In order to explore what kinds of community are constructed in the writing, I classify the features of community under four subjects, and specify how the idea of community premised upon human as ‘common existence’ can be applied to the problems of community in the reality.

< A Report to an Academy > by Chung Chan is modeled on Franz Kafka’s work of the same name. Chung Chan’s work is exactly alike the work of Kafka in title, form and structure. Both complete the formal requirements of a report presented to an academy, and have an anthropoid reporter(narrator) not human. Chung Chan’s narrator is a chimpanzee, and Kafka’s narrator is a monkey. Both represent human society and desire through an anthropoid’s eye. In the meaning or the subject of work, however, Chung Chan’s work is different from Kafka’s. Kafka’s work has a question of self-examination about human beings. Chung Chan’s work raises a problem about the substance of human language. Further Chung Chan’s works reflects on self-examination about novels as a genre. It is because language is a substantial medium of novels. Practically in the work Chung Chan shows his interest in novels as a genre frequently and significantly through the narrator chimpanzee. In view of this, Chung Chan’s work shows both similarities to and differences from Kafka’s work. Kafka’s work is an allegory about problems in human liberty and suppression. Chung Chan’s work treats problems in human language, thought, and communication. Therefore Chung Chan’s work is a satirical novel. Ultimately, < A Report to an Academy > by Chung Chan deals with the existence and qualification of human beings. This work tells about the authority of human and problems in language in a way of borrowing Kafka’s work of the same name.

Park, Jae-sam’s poems represent his self consciousness with strong centripetal features reduced to identity, however, also hide the will of dynamic centrifugal expansion. He could not push forward these worlds more passionately at the late period of his poetry. Repeatedly regressed to his early poetry due to poverty, illness and hardships of life, He was not able to expand his poetic characteristics. In his late poems, nevertheless, it is not difficult to find the message of self confirmation of the poet who lived through harsh modern history and repeatedly tried to identify the most archetypical and pure-minded world. At the base of Park’s late poems, the subject slowly moves forward to the wish for energetic, continuous and eternal ‘love’, passing the permanently indelible world of ‘deep sorrow(han).’ And the shape of ‘nature’ gradually changes from the allegorical one mediating ‘deep sorrow’ in the early poems to the one existing wit its own transparent materiality. In this point, Park, Jae-sam’s ‘nature’ functions as a correlative which cheers up a person in a critical situation and make the subject to speak brightly and healthily with its boundless vitality. This is a strong indicator showing that Park’s poems seek for life. And it also becomes the important reason that he not be confined only to ‘a poet of 1950s’ nor to ‘a post-war poet.’ Therefore, Park, Jae-sam’s late poems singing the principle of ‘love’ and authentic ‘nature’ are very meaningful knot in his entire poetic world.

‘Poetic drama’ in Korea first published in Sept. 1923. Poetic drama was born in the atmosphere of literary history in the early modern times. Though number of works were a few, they formed a phenomenon to some degree and such poetic drama has continued till now. Poetic drama has been always behind poems and general drama in Korea as well as in the West. This might be because it is difficult to realize creative intention to completely fuse poems and drama. This proves that it is difficult to create a new style, at the same time, this means stubborn character of literary style. If so, it could be said that poetic drama style has its own meaning because the style has endured poor environment and continued until now only in Korea. When looking at a glance on early time of Korean poetic drama in 1920s, it is clear that characteristic of poetic drama in fusion of poem and drama was considered, but it can be evaluated that character of poem is stronger than character of drama. This would be caused by unmature skill in creating drama according to viewpoint but it would be more reasonable to see it as transient phenomenon or era’s limitation to test poetic drama as a new style. Accordingly, it is natural to give high score for the artistic courage and experimental spirit of the artists in then times who willingly selected poetic drama style not already generalized modern poetry or drama, going beyond degree of completion of poetic drama. In conclusion, when we consider that the history of poetic drama has reached one century, their contribution should be assessed very high - poetic drama in Korea began by artistic curiosity of the artists who were deeply conscious for proper correlation between material and style.

As the popularity of educational comics have grown since the early 2000s, number of researches interested in these particular comics have increased in parallel. Researches about educational comics can be placed under three categories; firstly the reasons of the success of educational comics and the analysis of its narrative characteristics, secondly the study of the general perception of educational comics, and lastly the learning effects of educational comics. Among these subjects, this study will explore the research tendencies for the learning effects of educational comics. The selected study object has its significance as though the expected effects of educational comics are minimal, they are still erroneously emphasized. This research will first analyze in what aspects previous researches have asserted the learning effects of educational comics, and later propose what expectations should educational comics fulfill in the future. In this purpose this study will in the first part take interest in the research results of the learning effects of regular comics. After affirming that most researches concluded that the comics`` form itself can create learning effects, it will then analyze researches on the learning effects of educational comics. At this point this study will show that though most of the studies had confirmed its effects, these positive results are in fact more due to a combination of comics making activities than the act of reading comics itself. Finally, we will suggest that educational comics should get rid of its pedagogical aspect and emphasize the necessity of viewing them through a regular artistic angle. This study in conclusion will strongly solicit educational comics to be transformed from a banal means of transmitting informations into a children``s comic that provides emotional abundance as well as a colorful perception and imagination.
