The purpose of this study is to propose educational content to improve speech of caring based on language sensitivity. In order to realize caring in speech, there is a need to develop the cognitive component in the speech of caring. This study proposes that language sensitivity must be enhanced in speaking education. Hence, the possibility of using the auxiliary verb ‘juda’ as part of the educational contents was explored as one of the methods to achieve this. The auxiliary verb ‘juda’ has various semantic functions in many contexts. The representative meaning of this verb is ‘service(to be of benefit to someone)’. This verb also conveys politeness or friendliness. Due to differences arising from language sensitivities, the participants in a conversation may understand some expressions, including this verb, differently. Therefore, this study proposes using educational contents that help in understanding the grammatical characteristics and the various semantic functions of the auxiliary verb ‘juda’ for the speech of caring.

This paper considered the theme of conversation as the main supporter of the actual conversation, and examined various factors of conversation associated with the theme. First, with regard to utterance overlaps, the frequency of occurrence was significantly higher in the non subject group than in the subject group. However, with regard to the speech opportunity, there was no large variation among the groups regardless of the theme. Second, the major quasi - linguistic expression of oral language was divided into two parts: within 1~2 seconds and more than 2 seconds. In other words, only the latter was a significant variable among the groups. Third, there exists the related problem of the differences in the speaking length of groups according to the subjects. A significant difference was also seen between the group that assumed the theme and the group that followed ti.

In this study, I investigate the code switching and communicative strategies of Goryoin in Gwangju, the Korean immigrants from the former USSR who have migrated back to Korea since the year 2000. The code switching they use in their dialogues is based on diaglossia and bilingualism in general. It is noteworthy to examine the kind of language they use as the dominant one and how they switch to another, etc. Code switching of them is apparently motivated by their various communicative strategies and intentions in the dialogues. Also I measure the degree of code switching they show in their dialogues and examine whether this degree varies depending on how long they have lived in Korea and where they were born, etc. I lay down the Korean expressions as switched-codes in the dialogue that the Goryoin employ in order to achieve their communicative goals and examine how frequently they code switch in their language use. My study could contribute to setting up Korean language education plans and language policy related to social integration policy for the Goryoin.

This research is an empirical study on speech education for university students using case studies from the “Leadership and Communication” class conducted as a core liberal arts program by ‘S’ women’s university. The practical curriculum of this class, in the compulsory liberal arts education program is aimed at, cultivating future women leaders with good communication skills and it includes reading, writing, presentation, and discussion. By judging communicating ability as an important basis for leadership capability, class activities were conducted to focus solely on communication education aimed at not only criticism and persuasion but also sympathy, solicitude, conversation, and cooperation. In addition, considering the uniqueness of the women’s university, training was offered for students to develop their capabilities in recognizing and interpreting social problems from a gender perspective. The following are the implications of speech education for university students as clarified through this research. 1) Speech education course of a university should involve not just developing students’ ability to speak but also cultivating in them a mature sense of citizenship with humanistic refinement.; 2) The contents of speech education should be diversified in the direction of cultivating creativity and integrated thinking ability.; 3) As an education aimed at gaining unified knowledge of conduct, speech education should enhance the learning and practicing capabilities for right speech, from the perspective of life-long learning.; 4) The education should be conducted in the direction of expanding the communion of mentoring and tutoring between a professor and students or among students.; 5) Speech education should be developed as a learner-customized intellectual education that offers appropriate contents based on each learner’s characteristics.

The purpose of this study is to suggest how the current listening education of interpersonal relationship-centered communication could be improved. We studied learning mechanisms related to the interpersonal communication skills programmed in social robots. First of all, we defined “interpersonal relationship-centered communication” as hearing and talking, in order to emphasize human uniqueness. From this perspective, we confirmed that “perception” and “reflective thinking” play an important role in the learning mechanism that social robots have developed to communicate human emotions. In summary, we chose the following direction for improving listening comprehension for improving interpersonal relationship-centered communication: Reinforcing “perception” and “reflective thinking” activities focusing on information other than language messages.

텔레비전 뉴스 담화에서의 한국어 시제 사용 분석

This study aims to analyze the genre characteristics of discourse and the use of tenses in television news. The research questions are as follows: a) Are there differences in the use of tenses according to the move of the news? b) Are there differences in the use of tenses according to the topic of the news? For the analysis, 34 evening newscasts from April 19 to April 26, 2017, of three broadcasters were used. Analyzing the use of tenses according to the news topic, it was observed that in the news reporting events or incidents, the past tense functioned as a representation of the foreground; whereas in the news reporting a social phenomenon, the present tenses represented the foreground. Analyzing the use of tenses according to the move of the news, we observed constant movement of the deictic center. The result of this study shows that tenses serve different functions according to the move within the discourse. Moreover, even within the same discourse genre of news report, the type of the news topic defined the utilization of tenses.
