This study aims to verify the reliability of peer evaluation during persuasive and informative speaking in university liberal arts speech classes. To this end, it presented 46 university students with persuasive and informative speaking assignments and conducted a peer evaluation during their presentations. Subsequently, the students’ evaluation results were analyzed by applying the multi-faceted Rasch model. The analysis focused on evaluator appropriateness, evaluator bias, and the appropriateness of criteria and evaluation standards. The results of the analysis showed that 6 evaluators demonstrated inappropriate evaluation behavior during the persuasive speaking evaluation, and 13 were confirmed as over-fit and unfit evaluators in the informative speaking evaluation. Further, a greater over-fit reaction was found in the informative speaking evaluation for severity variability and evaluator agreement. Moreover, differences were found in using evaluation standards. The most severe evaluation was for the contents of persuasive speaking, and the most severe reaction was found in the delivery of informative speaking. In addition, a tendency for over-fit evaluation was found in the organization criteria for informative speaking. Thus, the results of the research highlighted different evaluation tendencies from the same evaluator based on the genre of speech. Therefore, there is a need for evaluator training based on genre.

외국인 유학생의 언어 정체성 연구

A human being’s identity can be understood through their nationality, gender, religion, occupation and age. Identity is also constructed and presented through the language they use when communication with other people. This study interviewed three non-native graduate students about their language use and analyzed the language identity through their narratives. The analysis showed that non-native students reflect different identities depending on who they communicate with and how proficient they are in the language they use. Specifically, the level of proficiency in English served as a factor that made students feel inferior or alienated when communicating with other students. In addition, the students’ use of their native language appears to be influenced by Koreans’ prejudice against their country. However, even the students who spoke English fluently could find themselves recognized as minorities among fluent Korean speaking students. The significance of this study lies in the analysis of the multifaceted aspects of language identity. These aspects are observed in non-native students who could communicate in more than two languages.

한국어 학습자의 반성적 쓰기를 통한 자기 평가 양상 연구

The study aims to analyze how Korean learners evaluate themselves in their learning process. First, self-evaluation is defined and categorized into self-concept, ownership, critical thinking, meta-cognition, and feedback. Second, the reflective writing materials produced by learners are analyzed, and the problems are classified according to the categories. The self-evaluation aspects in the writing materials are as follows. First, learners often form self-concept in the process of writing, which may lead to their lack of confidence and meta-cognition in writing. Additionally, in the process of writing, due to their inability to analyze problems based on critical thinking, it is difficult for learners to use the ownership strategy to solve problems, and self-evaluation eventually fails to achieve effective feedback. To improve self-evaluation ability, learners need to develop positive self-concept and meta-cognition and improve their ability to discover and solve problems by using critical thinking and the ownership strategy.

한중 외교 브리핑 담화 속 거절 화행의 감정이입과 감정차단 연구

Based on the perspective of pragmatic empathy and de-empathy, this study aims to explore similarities and differences of strategies and emotional models of the diplomatic refusal speech act between China and South Korea. Moreover, the study explains the motivations of the differences in emotional models from the perspective of cultural differences, diplomatic environment, and interpersonal rapport orientation. The results indicate that foreign ministry spokespersons of China and South Korea seldom use direct refusal strategies and for the sake of face-saving, tend to implement indirect strategies. However, there are differences in specific strategies. When implementing refusal speech acts, both parties prefer to use the pragmatic empathy model. Compared with its Chinese counterparts, the empathy models adopted by South Korean spokespersons are significantly higher than that of the de-empathy models. Suggestions are offered for Korean refusal speech act education from three aspects: pragmatic and cultural factors, indirect refusal techniques, and the use of corpus.
