1950-60년대 학습자가 인식한 한국어교육 환경 연구-개신교 선교사 학습자를 중심으로-

This study is to present a vivid picture of the Korean language education environment in the 1950-60s, particularly from the learners’ perspective. An in-depth interview was adapted as the research method. Since the majority of Korean language learners during this period were Protestant missionaries from the USA, six former missionaries who participated in Korean language education at formal Korean language institutions were interviewed respectively. Among the participants, two of them were with the Korean Language School(KLS) in the 1950s and the remaining four with Yonsei Korean Language Institute(KLI) in the 1960s. The interviews revealed three major agents of Korean language education environment during this period that had influenced the participants’ learning experience: the missionary orientation programs in the USA, Korean language institutions in Korea and the language committee of the various mission organizations in Korea. Firstly, the participants’ experiences with the above mentioned agents were elaborated to describe the ‘macro view’ of the Korean language education environment. Secondly, the features of the two domestic Korean language education programs during this period were analyzed to present the ‘micro view’ of the Korean language education environment. The purpose of this study is to examine the discourse function of Korean grammar items in an inductive way. Through this inductive approach, this study tries to summarize the discourse functions that are being handled at high frequency in the actual education field and cluster them. In this way, it is possible to understand what kind of discourse function is being actively used in Korean. The grammatical items in this paper are mainly subject to teaching in Korean educational grammar. This study refers to the Korean textbooks and the Korean grammar dictionary for education as materials to select them. Each grammatical item can have multiple meanings, which can be derived from the grammatical basic meaning, and these grammatical meanings make it possible to acquire distinctive functions in a specific discourse context. First, this study classifies the type of discourse function based on inductive analysis of individual grammatical items for Korean corpus. The grammatical items are 54 particles, 98 connective expressions, 189 final ending expressions, and 8 pre-final endings. Second, this study analyzes whether the discourse function of grammatical items in each category has different grammatical features. Third, this study classifies the grammatical items by discourse function and identifies specific grammatical items belonging to each group.(Yonsei University)

This thesis is aiming to analyze phonological phenomena of Korean vowel harmony in a word. The theoretical ground for the vowel harmony is presented in terms of the Element theory. Based on this, the internal structure of vowels of Korean is presented. Vowel harmony in a word occurs mainly on ideophones and color words. And these phenomena are caused by the mechanism of generating a new word reflecting the differentiation of the word nuance through the change of the vowel. The underlying forms of vowel harmony are /ə/ and /u/. And the harmony feature is the element A. The element A is first combined with first nucleus, which changes its vowel value and then this vowel harmony feature is spreaded onto other followed nucleus. This spreading changes vowel of nucleus by strengthening element composition. (Hankuk University of Foreign Studies)

한국어 학습자를 위한 『국립국어원 한국어-외국어 학습사전』의 특징 분석 연구

The purpose of this paper is to examine the key features of 『National Institute of Korean Language's Korean-Foreign language Learners' Dictionary』 in terms of dictionary structure, translation method, user convenience and to suggest the effective use of the dictionary. 『National Institute of Korean Language's Korean-Foreign language Learners' Dictionary』 is a bilingualised dictionary compiled on the web that translates the headwords and meanings of 『Basic Korean Dictionary』 into 10 languages. Therefore, this dictionary has all the features of learner's dictionary, translation dictionary, and web dictionary. In order to reflect the key features of the dictionary in the compilation of this dictionary, we designed a preliminary structure, clarified the translation method and detailed instructions, and tried to improve user convenience in searching and using. It is expected that we will analyze the dictionary use in the future and continuously reflect it in the supplement of the contents and service.(National Institute of Korean Language)

중국인 학습자가 산출한 한국어 어두파열음의 후행모음 길이 연구

The objective of this study is to examine the vowel duration that follow word initial-plosives in Korean language produced by Chinese learners, to identify its characteristics and propose how to use the following vowel duration for teaching pronunciation of word initial-plosives. To this end, 20 native Korean speakers from Seoul and Gyeonggido Province in their 20s and 20 Chinese speakers from Shandong Province in their 20s participated in the production experiment. They were asked to pronounce nine word initial-plosives in each sentence unit, and the vowel duration was analyzed. According to the result, native Korean speakers produced the longest sound for vowels that followed fortis, while producing shorter sounds for the following vowels of lax and aspirated. Another observation was an inverse relationship between VOT of word-initial plosives and the vowel duration. In comparison, the vowel duration produced by Chinese speakers had no differences among lax, aspirated, and fortis. Also, an inverse relationship was not observed between VOT and the vowel duration. To examine the effect of education, we taught Chinese participants that the vowel duration should vary by the phonation type of word initial-plosives. Afterwards, we asked them to read the same sentences again, and measured the vowel duration. The vowel duration produced by Chinese participants after the instruction remained different from that produced by native Korean speakers. However, compared to pre-instruction test, Chinese participants produced shorter sounds for the following vowels of lax and aspirated consonants. This suggests that the characteristics of the vowel duration by different phonation type can be applied to teaching word initial-plosives in Korean language. Teaching Chinese learners of Korean language to pronounce the vowel duration of fortis longer than the following vowel of lax or aspirated would help them make a distinction between lax and aspirated, and correctly pronounce them. This paper mainly discusses the influence of 『the Scheme for the Chinese Phonetic Alphabet』 on learning pronunciation of Korean for Chinese students. As a kind of transcription symbols, Pinyin can be used to mark the pronunciation of Mandarin and Chinese characters. When Chinese students learn foreign language, most of them incline to mark the pronunciation by using Pinyin. However, Pinyin is not really a sound symbol, sometimes there is a deviation from the actual pronunciation. Although lots of Chinese pronunciation is similar to the pronunciation of Korean, most of the times there are differences. Even so, the education of Korean pronunciation of the colleges and universities in China generally adopted the way that Korean pronunciation is in comparison with Chinese phonetic alphabet. Therefore, in this paper, we make an investigation into the differences between the phonetic symbols of 『the Scheme for the Chinese Phonetic Alphabet』 and the actual pronunciation. Teachers should teach learners to become astute observers of proper language use and interactions in second languages and second cultures for good communications(Hall 1999). Second language learners can participant in interactions by analyzing the customary meanings and personal usages in literary works. Poetry education has various meanings such as metaphorical language, active and emergent participation(Shin 2013), and the new semantic construction or emergent structure of these literary expressions can be understood using the process of Conceptual Blending(Fauconnier & Turner 2002). In this study, we try to find a teaching method by using conceptual mappings in the process of understanding Yun’s poems. The learner can read the poetry and understand the meaning through observation and analysis. By learning through the Conceptual Blending using the contextual cues, it becomes possible to understand the creative meaning. Teaching to communicate in appropriate manners for Korean culture is a process of helping learners understand the way of thinking in this language community. (Hankuk University of Foreign Studies)

현대 한국어의 한자·한자어의 빈도 및 분포에 대한 계량적 분석과 그 활용

This paper is a part of the serial studies which aim to clarify the status of Chino-Korean Words in modern Korean by analyzing text corpora. The author have conversed 3M-words balanced modern Korean corpus into Chino-Koreanized corpus using text editor and python script and Korean Chino-Korean correspondance files, and the ways of creating Chino-Koreanized corpus was demonstrated in chapter 2. In chapter 2, also, it was emphasized that the ways of calculating the frequencies and investigating the distributions of Chino-Korean syllables and Chino-Korean words are to be reconsidered. In chapter 3, we showed the frequencies and distributions of Chino-Korean syllables and Chino-Korean words and clarified that the text coverages of Chino-Korean words are higher than usually thought. In chapter 4, based on the frequency data, the author proposed the lists of Chino-Korean syllables and Chino-Korean words for first step learners in Koran language education.

주관화 이론을 적용한 연결어미 ‘-(으)면’의 의미 조합 분석과 의미 제시순서

The purpose of this research suggests the presenting order applying subjectification theory based on the negative evaluation result of present method of conjunctive word '-(eu)myeon' that Korean teaching materials provide. As a result, four 4 kinds of meaning combination between a first caluse and a second clause were found; ‘r-r’, ‘r-p’, ‘p-r’, ‘p-p’. (‘r’- realization, ‘p’- possibility of realization) This research suggests the presenting order of the meaning combinations based on the subjectification theory. The presenting order is followed by ‘r-r’ ‘p-r’, ‘r-p’,’p-p’ and it is expanded from objective cognition to subjective cognition. The result of this research will be helpful for Korean teachers and teaching materials planners to deliver conjunctive word '-(eu)myeon' effectively. (KookMin University)
