The purpose of this study is rousing a recent attention to the changes of languages of Korea and near Korean peninsula, as well as reviewing the historical or traditional flow of Korean language teaching. Additionally, this study also discussed about the alternative methodological possibilities of analysing the origin of languages based on gene-culture coevolution theory adapting language phylogeny, not by internal reconstruction of traditional language research. Looking backward over past times before modern era, teaching and learning Korean language as a ‘foreign’ language were slowly changed from ‘oral(spoken)-focused / borderland-based / hereditary succession / natural acquisition’ circumstances into ‘document(written)-focused / government-based / professional training / organized learning’ system. 태국인 학습자의 한국어 이동동사 구문에 나타나는 조사 대응 습득 연구

The purpose of the study is to investigate the case marking by Thai L1 learners of Korean. Thirty native speakers (NK) and 60 Thai L1 learners participated in the study(30 Intermediate level learners, HL and 30 Beginning level learners, LL). The task was a multiple choice task which was composed of 18 movement verb sentences. The items were divided by case marker alternation (9 alternation constructions and 9 non-alternation constructions). Alternation construction allows replacing ‘ey’ or ‘eyse’ with ‘ul/lul’. Non-alternation construction allows only ‘ul/lul’. The result showed no proficiency variability among the learners. The Learners showed different acceptability judgment from NK by choosing ungrammatical markers in most of the constructions. In non-alternation constructions, NK chose ‘ul/lul’ correctly but the learners failed to choose ‘ul/lul’ and rather chose ‘ey’ or ‘eyse’ erroneously. This observation implicates that more attention and instruction on movement verb construction and case marking alternations should be provided. (Ewha Womans University)

초등학생 한국어(KSL) 학습자를 위한 ‘학습 도구 한국어’ 교육 내용화 방안 탐색

The purpose of this research is to propose a plan to organize the contents of ‘Learning Tool Korean’ education for elementary school students. For this purpose, this study first analyzed the concept of ‘Learning Tool Korean’ in ‘Korean as a Second Language Curriculum(revised in 2017)’ and looked at the properties of the proposed language materials. Learning Tool Korean is a language that is required for general academic activities, with the exception of professional content and concepts. These use of Academic Korean is related to ‘Learning Tool Korean Functions’ and ‘learning context’. The Learning Tool Korean functions were established through the analysis of learning skills, strategies and basic thinking functions. The ‘context of problem solving’ and ‘context of procedural activity’ were identified through the textbook analysis of the learning context. Based on these discussions, this study presented, in the result, a model examples of communicative task for Learning Tool Korean education. (Seoul National University of Education)

구어 전사 말뭉치 구축에 관한 현황과 쟁점

This paper aims to discuss the related issues and their solutions for the construction of new corpus corpora. In other words, we have examined the following issues to construct a new spoken corpus. First, we summarized the domestic and foreign corporation corpus construction business. And second we have summarized the examples of use of corpus in various fields and the issues in construction. Finally, we discussed specific measures to solve these issues. A study of corpus that can represent the spoken language of modern Korean is also necessary. But at the present time, I constructed the new corpus map in order to supplement the Sejong spoken corpus so that it can be used in connection with the Sejong spoken corpus. The level of the transcription was based on the orthographic transcription, but it seemed necessary to parallel the partial phoneme transcription to show the characteristics of the spoken language. The transcription tool suggested using Elan to synchronize voice and text. Finally, we discussed how to write a consent form for the distribution of corpus. (Yonsei University)

This paper aims to classify the types of Korean grammar education items in terms of grammar functions. Among the Korean grammar items, there are many types of complex forms that are not handled well in Korean linguistics or Korean language education for native speakers. These complex forms have been categorized as ‘expression’ categories and distinct from other grammatical items. Thus, there is a problem that items having the same grammatical function are classified into different types. However, the grammatical functions of ‘expression’ items are not different from other grammatical items. On the contrary, there are more advantages in classifying all types of grammar education items, focusing on grammatical functions. Classification of grammatical items should be in accordance with the purpose of Korean grammar education. From this point of view, classification according to grammatical functions is more valid than classification based on differences in formal composition.. (Sogang University)

Kövecses(2006) suggested that there is a peculiar metaphor that is preferred by other members according to the social factors and historical periods of a community. Such peculiar metaphors differ not only from one culture to another, but also exist in a same culture. Based on the theory of Kövecses, this study aims to investigate how the emotions of universal and central love of human beings appear differently in Korean culture, and to clarify the aspects through the songs of Shin Seung Hun and Baek Ji Young. In Chapter 2, we focus on the causes of cultural variation presented by Kövecses (2002, 2010). In Chapter 3, we explore the metaphorical conceptualization of love which Koreans customarily hold through song lyrics. In Chapter 4, we will discuss the metaphorical variation in Korean culture from two perspectives, based on the conceptual metaphor of love, and the difference of choice in metaphorical conceptualization and metaphorical language expression derived from Chapter 3. This study was aimed at measuring the correlation between the academic text reading ability and the writing ability of Vietnamese KSL students, to investigate the correlation of both abilities, and to draw out the educational implications through such a research. For this purpose, a total of 32 Vietnamese KSL students participated in this experiment. In order to measure their reading abilities, this study used a total of 20 questions consisting of sentence arrangement, theme identification, detail content identification, and inference type questions. Furthermore this study also investigated the learners’ writing abilities by using writing type questions that are typically used during a TOPIK exam. The results from analyzing their data were as follows. First, similar to findings of previous researches, it was found that the Vietnamese participants‘ reading ability of Korean was positively correlated with their writing ability. Second, the Vietnamese learners various use of vocabulary, grammar and expressions among the Korean writing ability showed a much better reading ability in Korean. Third, it also identified that the learners showed more ability to arrange necessary sentences that produced more logical and persuasive writing. Fourth, participants were more easily able to understand the reading and/or writing text if they already had some knowledge of the subject. Fifth, it showed that only writing experience in Korean had a positive influence on their overall writing ability. Based on these results, it is suggested that the education of the Korean language can be further developed by linking reading and writing instructions. In particular, education of the Korean language needs to practically demonstrate the characteristics of Korean written text and help learners to utilize them.(Sookmyung Women’s University)

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the usage patterns and errors of the adverbial particle. We will focus on the research used in place of ‘에’, according to how it appears for various semantic items of ‘에’. In this paper, we try to investigate the errors of ‘에’, which is the survey of the Chinese Korean learners, through large scale learner data. The specific research goals are as follows. First, we try to analyze the substitution error of the adverbial particle. Second, we try to examine the pattern of confrontation error according to the dictionary meaning of ‘에’. The results of the substitution error analysis are as follows. First, the errors of substitution of ‘에’ were in the order of ‘에서’ to ‘을/ 를’ to ‘의’ to ‘이/가’. Second, there was a difference in the aspect of the survey which was replaced by the meaning of ‘에’. And based on the example sentences of the errors, we could estimate the cause of some errors by estimating the influence of the mother tongue through the contrast analysis. First, there is a certain Chinese semantic counterpart, but a negative transition occurs. Second, there are a lot of Chinese correspondence, and there is interference in some cases. Third, there is no corresponding expression in Chinese. Next, it is difficult to see it as a mother tongue interference, but there are some complicated errors in ‘에’ itself. It is meaningful to examine the pattern of errors in large-scale empirical data and to diagnose errors in semantic items of Chinese learners through concrete examples. (Yonsei University)

Our society is getting more and more documents that are generated and circulated through the internet, and the amount of articles to be read online is getting more and more. Our society is getting more and more documents that are generated and circulated through the internet, and the amount of articles to be read online is getting more and more. In this situation, it is impossible to read the contents of a large amount of text data in a short time and to grasp important contents. Therefore, the demand for summarizing a large amount of information as a core content is expected to grow more and more. Under this background, this study aims at deriving a method for document summarization as ‘the sentence level reduction for automatic text summarization’ which is an application of Korean information processing. The study was conducted in two directions. First, we built a seed sentence compression corpus by marked tags in the expression to be deleted. Second, we extracted possibly deleted syntactic structures to create a priori syntactic compressing rules. (Sogang University)

This study aimed to reveal the ability of lexical use of married immigrant women residing in Korea for a long time by collecting their writing materials, based on the lexical complexity as its theoretical background. In summary of the results of this study, regarding the lexical diversity, immigrants used noun-concentrated words regardless of the topic of composition. Regarding the lexical density, the number of actual words realized was increased while the number of type was decreased. It shows that married immigrant women are repetitively using words in the same parts of speech regardless of the topic of composition. Moreover, regarding the lexical sophistication, most of the immigrants only used high-frequency words used in daily life, so that their ability of lexical use was no better than the elementary level. Especially, the result of Measurement lexical complexity shows that it is limited to learn words by itself in the natural learning environment just like grammar. And the lexical education should be considered not in the aspect of simple understanding, but in the aspect of production. Lastly, this study has a limitation of having few research samples. However, the significance of this study is to collect vertical data and also to objectively measure the lexical ability of married immigrant women through indexes of lexical density and lexical sophistication.(Dongduk Women’s University)
