For this study, four participants’(two Chinese-Korean, two Chinese) 12 Korean class recorded and then this data was analyzed. As a result, we found that Chinese Korean teacher used word-related grammatical terminology most frequently. These results suggest that the educational content and grammatical terminology in the textbooks affected teachers’ use of the grammatical terminology. Second, Chinese Korean teacher mainly used grammatical terminologies in the grammar description and vocabulary explaining stage. These results appear to have been influenced by China’s education culture, where Grammar Translation Methods are mainly used.. Finally, Chinese Korean teacher used grammatical terminology depend on Chinese as student’s L1. This result is affected by nonnative foreign language teacher’s general feature. The world is now in the era of the ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution’. In this new era, the paradigm of education is being transformed into smart education that transcends time and space between teaching and learning. MOOC (Massive Open Online Course), which is an open online education based on web services, is a representative example. Experience and acquirement of culture in addition to the way of education is also evolving from the character center to the utilization of multi symbol including characters and images such as TV, internet, smartphone. So how do we understand the 21st century Korean culture for today’s mobile generation communicating with society through multi-symbol? How do we interpret Korean cultural content in the digital age combined with characters, as well as voice, sound, and especially images? How will you educate the meaning of an image that fills the mobile world that is fast-growing from digital native to mobile native? This study was designed to suggest another methodology of cultural education using K-MOOC. For this purpose, concrete examples of cultural education methodology will be presented for the K-MOOC lecture "Cultural Contents Reading through Image". (Kyung Hee University & Dankook University)

This study aims to analyze the decrease of the vocabulary frequency and the increase of the lyrics from the 1970s to the 2000s. We examined the frequency of representative vocabularies in nouns, verbs and adjectives, and examined the characteristics of emotions. The purpose of this study is to investigate the application of cultural literacy education to Korean culture education by examining the change of vocabulary frequency and observing the contemporary social phenomenon and the latent desire of the masses. From the above, it can be understood that Korean people can plan their understanding of Korean culture and society through popular songs that contain the cultural context of Korea. The lyrics of Korean pop songs can be used as a multimedia education material that enhances cultural sensitivity so that learners’ Korean language ability can be expanded not only because they include current living language, but also because they can critically understand popular culture. As a result, the Korean popular song is a cultural product, which is valuable as language and cultural education material that can understand the situation of the times.( Yonsei University)

The purpose of this study is to find out the perception of the vowel length in modern Korean and it’s phonetic realization of speakers from Seoul and Gyeonggi-do Area. The length of the vowel is known as one of the distinctive feature in Korean, however, it has been reported since 1960s that the distinctive feature of vowel length has entered the stage of loss. To find out the phonetic realization of vowel length, several sentences with words including long and short vowels were given randomly to read out loud. Then the subject was asked to mark on the words with long vowels to find out the perception of the vowel length. Results of the survey and the empirical data shows that the only limited number of subjects distinguished the length of vowel from the survey. Also, perception of the vowel length corresponded only 1% to it’s realization, which shows a great contrast from the experiment conducted in the end of 1980s where the perception of the vowel length corresponded to it’s realization by 75%. Thus, vowel length in Korean appears to be in the last stage of loss. (Ewha Woman’s University)

The purpose of this study is to find the current state of Korean language education in Korea Immigration and Integration Program(KIIP) of Ministry of Justice, to compare with language education programs for the social integration of immigrants in developed countries, including Denmark, the Netherlands, Germany, Australia, and France, and to propose an improvement plan of Korean language education. To achieve that, this researcher analyzed relevant works, collected the data provided at the immigration and social integration website of each country, and compared with Korean language education in the KIIP in the categories of participants of language education program, education steps and education system, program completion hours and evaluation method. As the comparative analysis, this study proposes the improvement plan of Korean language program, which includes the expansion of education hours of each step of the program, the design of the curriculum in consideration of various types of immigrants, the tuition for immigrants’ active class participation, the improvement in program completion conditions, and diversification of educational operation methods. This study is meaningful in the point that it suggested the improvement plan of Korean language education in the KIIP through the broad analysis of the comparison with foreign cases. The purpose of this study is to examine the graph analysis data of foreign students, to search for errors, and to find guidelines for improving their writing skills. As a result of analyzing the problems in 125 articles written by 89 learners, learners had difficulties both in terms of understanding facts and production (fact-description and opinion-writing). In order to solve these problems and improve the ability of analyzing graphs in foreign students, first, the ‘understanding → production‘ process is necessary. Second, genre recognition for academic writing and thirdly, education for formulaic expression is critically needed. Fourth, the practice of graph analysis needs to be presented as a learner-centered approach. Fifthly, students should be taught how to enhance their ability to select and describe various kinds of graphs that match the nature of data. (Sejong Cyber University)

This study aims to examine the reading subjects of Korean textbooks from the viewpoint of text-semiotics. In this study, we propose a two-step analysis procedure. The first step is to identify the characteristics of the communicators and to understand how the text is accepted by the communicators. Here, classroom situation, class situation, teacher and learner situations are analyzed. The second step is to analyze the text structure. In this step, the partial text is determined, and the communication function of the partial text is analyzed. Next, we will look at how language symbols and visual symbols are used, and how language symbols and visual symbols are related to each other. Finally, this paper analyzes the function of partial text in each class stage and attempts to understand what it means in teaching and learning. The advantages of text analysis using text-semiotics are as follows. First, the relationship between the language symbol and the visual symbol of the textbook can be grasped systematically. Second, textbooks can be analyzed in terms of ‘production’ and ‘acceptance’. Third, the problems of ‘input’ and ‘output’ in Korean textbooks can be grasped. Fourth, it can be judged whether the design of the textbook is appropriate. (Chonnam University)

This paper aims to examine the meaning of gender of various issues in Korean society through word embedding which is a way of expressing distributional semantics, the meaning of language from a large volume of text data. Gender is a form of sociality and refers to the general characteristics that are specified and distinguished by the words male and female. As the technical expression of ‘sociality’ implies, the gender of women and men has changed and the meaning has been related to the characteristics and changes of human groups in society, and it is expressed linguistically. Many sociolinguistic or gender related language studies have investigated the linguistic characteristics of each gender with the utterance of mainly female and male speakers. This is a sociolinguistic variable that explains the difference in the way women and men express their language. On the other hand, the character and meaning of gender can be revealed according to what linguistic expressions are used, when describing woman or man. And the linguistic medium that most reveals various works of human society is newspaper data. Therefore, this article aims to show the change of linguistic aspects which describe and express the events of women and men in news corpus, rather than linguistic variables of women speakers and men speakers. The purpose of this study is to analyze the motivation and de-motivation factors of the beginner learners of Korean language. The survey was conducted for the self-determination motivation and de-motivation factors in 297 Vietnamese and Chinese learners studying at a Korean language institute in Seoul. According to the results of the study, the beginner learners of Korean language appeared to be intrinsic motivated. This study confirms previous research results that motivation is generally high in the early stages of learning. Among the de-motivational factors, ‘difficulty of learning’ was the most important factor in both groups. It is difficult to avoid the unfamiliarity and difficulties of Korean language itself, but a methodological approach to solve it in the teaching and learning process will be needed. Anxiety about learning failure also appeared to be an important motive for de-motivation, which is also closely related to external factors. (Hankuk University of Foreign Studies)
