근대어(近代語) ‘먹다’와 ‘□□다’에 관(關)한 연구(硏究)

This study aims to research the modification of ‘먹다’ and ‘□□다’ in the modern language, and proceeds identify their synonymy through their syntactic-semantic relationship and translation of Sino-Korean words. For the syntactic-semantic relationship, the ‘NP1-이 NP2-를 먹다/ □ □다.’ sentences was the main focus of attention. The first, sentence addresses the basic meaning of the two words, and the second, the semantic extensions that function as polysemous expressions. Identification of the synonymic-relationship between the two words in the modern language was possible by first, by comparing and contrasting the Sino-Korean word and the native Korean word through translation, second by comparing the objects (target roles of NP2) in the predicates of ‘NP1-이 NP2-를 먹다/□□다’ sentences, finally through the certification of the opposite meaning. 한국어 교재 대화문에 포함된 조언의 실제성 분석

The study attempts to examine the authenticity of the advice in the KSL textbooks by comparatively analyzing the advices in the conversations of the textbooks and the advices produced by Korean Native Speakers in terms of the rate of the occurrence, the degree of the directness, and the grammar patterns as conventional indicators. For the study, 28 conversation texts in the 16 textbooks and DCT data collected from the 103 Koreans are utilized. The results of the study are as follows: First, the results of the DCT data display a comparatively high rate of occurrence in the similar contexts as the textbooks. Second, in terms of the degree of the directness, the first class is distinctively used in the textbooks, while the second class is most frequently used in DCT. Third, the list of the grammar patterns that are used for advices in the textbooks and the DCT shows a similarity in a great part. In terms of the rate of the occurrence, however, they present a lot different patterns. (Pukyong National University)

This study was designed to provide methods on how to reduce the displeasure of Korean listeners in response to Japanese KFL learners facilitating adjunctive strategy in refusal situations. Through this study, it is possible to deliver meaningful messages on speech acts to the field of teaching and learning for Japanese KFL students. For this study, 60 Korean native speakers’ answer sheets were analysed. The statistics of questionnaires indicated that the displeasure difference is dependent on adjunctive strategy and the social status of the Korean listener, which means there is correlation between experimental and dependent variables. In case of using appellation as an adjunctive strategy, the degree of displeasure was lower than other cases. On the contrary, there was no statistical difference between using repeating a request strategy or not. Therefore, the result could emphasize that repeating a request as an adjunctive strategy would not help reduce the displeasure of Korean listeners in refusal situations. Especially, in the case where Korean listeners are of a higher social status, the differences of displeasure degree according to adjunctive strategies were significant in all situations. This means that appropriate adjunctive strategic uses are more attributable to Japanese KFL students communicating with Korean speakers who are of a higher social status. (Korea University)

The purpose of this study is to analyze four social interaction theories of a collaborative communication between a husband and a foreign immigrated wife. Marital conflict leads to positive and collaborative communication. The key factor of conflicts the foreign immigrant women experiences seems to be a absence of communication, misunderstanding of linguistic meanings, uncompromising position, and so on. In this study, we would like to examine how well collaborative communication in marriage life is formed based on the multicultural family couples' social interaction. Therefore, by conducting in-depth interviews with three couples, we enhanced the acceleration factor of collaborative communication in marital life, and analyze four theories of social interaction; conflict factor, competition, exchange, and cooperation. Immigrant woman and her spouse usually do not understand cultural differences and behaviors so that it brings marital conflict. (lnha University, Chung-Ang University)

동남아시아에 조기유학 한 학생들의 귀국 경험

이 글은 조기 유학 후 한국에 귀국한 초중고 학생들의 한국학교로 재진입하는 과정의 경험을 탐색적으로 살펴본다. 근래에 약 25,000명의 조기유학생이 매년 출국하고, 약 20,000명이 조기유학 후 한국의 학교에 매년 재진입하고 있음에도 불구하고 귀국학생에 대한 연구는 극히 드물다. 요즈음 미국에 이어 가장 많은 한국 학생이 선택해온 동남아시아 국가(싱가포르, 말레이시아, 필리핀 등)에 다녀온 18명의 학생과 14명의 어머니와 심층 면접을 수행하였고, NVivo9를 사용하여 분석하였다. 초등학생의 경우 주로 1-2년간의 단기간 동안 체류하고 초등학교 졸업 이전에 귀국한 경우가 대다수여서 귀국 후 한국 학교 재진입과 적응에 큰 문제가 없었다. 반면 중고등학교 과정의 귀국학생의 경우 대개는 해외유학 기간 중의 학업 성취의 문제나 예기치 못한 가족의 경제적 어려움 발생 등의 문제로 귀국 할 수밖에 없는 상황에 처한 경우가 많았고, 한국 사회에서 유학실패자 혹은 한국교육 부적응자라는 인식을 포함한 부정적인 대우로 인해 재진입 과정 중 어려움을 겪는 경우가 많았다. 조기유학에 대한 대중적인 인식이 변화하고 조기유학을 선택하는 계층이 다양화되고 있음을 고려할 때, 현행 귀국학생 정책의 재고와 후속 연구가 요구된다. 메타텍스트의 기능적 특성 연구

This research explores the various textual characteristics of Korean material. Korean material can be categorized as either ‘Object Text’ or ‘Meta Text’. While object texts contain knowledge of Korean and Koran Culture, Meta Texts function as a tool for teaching and learning of Object Texts. So the Object Text is included teaching and learning contents, whereas the Meta Text is included teaching and learning methods. On this basis, an analysis of the characteristics of Meta Texts serves as a clear explanation for the educational functionality of Korean materials. However, Meta Texts have not been researched as much as Object Texts have until now. This study aims to reveal the textual characteristics of Meta Text through representative Meta Text such as a learning objective and an activity directions etc. A learning objectives is a text that states the objective of a relevant text. A activity directions on the other hand illustrates the progress of the implementation process of lessons, especially its chronological aspect. As evidenced by how the two Meta Texts types comprise a significant proportion of material's elements, those can be defined as the main Meta Text used to determine the characteristics of Meta Text. 한일 대조연구의 동향 분석과 과제 - 국내의 연구 동향을 중심으로 -

The purpose of this study is to analyse research trends in contrastive researches between Korean and Japanese, and then to explore future tasks of contrastive research in Korean education research. This study analyses 2,635 journal articles, academic dissertations, and books since 1970. The previous researches are classified by three variables; chronology, published type, and field of research. The trends of contrastive researches between Korean and Japanese are discussed according to seven categories; comprehensive study, phonological study, vocabulary study, grammatical study, pragmatic study, study on orthography and Chinese character, and the rest. Based on the results of the analysis, I will suggest future directions for contrastive analysis between Korean and Japanese in Korean education research. (Keimyung University)

This study is to clarify that there has been existed the ‘Korea Language School’ that replaced ‘The Language School’, the educational institution for the Christian Missionaries in Korea before Korea was liberated from Japan's colonial rule. This is a part of the research that focuses on the formation of the modern Korean language education until the Korean Language Institute at Yonsei University, the first modern Korean Language Institute, was established in Seoul, Korea. As a result, this study found that the ‘Korea Language School' has existed from the year of 1949 to 1958, which had never been reported before, and also examined the purpose, the participants, the contents and the curriculum of education, showing some problems the language school had at the time which eventually brought the establishment of the Korean Language Institute at Yonsei university as a solution to those problems. Therefore, it is concluded that the modern Korean Language Education, started from the establishment of Yonsei Korean Language Institute, was originated from the Korean Language Education for the Christian Missionaries. In addition, this study clarified the process of formation of modern Korean language education to some extent, despite that it remains some extra works to review the curriculum and the textbooks used in the beginning of Yonsei Korean Language Institute more closely. Vocabulary research has been done in numerous ways in the area of Korean language education. However, the related variables of vocabulary acquisition have never been searched for based on the second language theory. In particular, there has been a lack of focus on the gap between receptive and productive vocabulary. This study investigates the vocabulary size of Korean language learners to measure the difference between receptive and productive vocabulary. A total of 66 Korean language learners of academic purposes participated in the receptive and productive test of Korean vocabulary made by the researcher. Statistical analysis was done, which showed the mean for receptive vocabulary was 12.59 (out of 15) compared to just 9.41 for productive vocabulary. Two main variables-how long a participant has been learning Korean, and the achievement score from the participants’ Korean writing class--were entered into the correlation analysis. Receptive vocabulary correlated at r=.45, r=.36 respectively for the duration and achivement. However, productive vocabulary only correlated at r=.55 for the achievement score. The result of this study implies that the process of two kinds of vocabulary acquisition follows different routes. There appear to be other related variables in acquiring productive vocabulary which could have been researched. Therefore, a future study needs to find other related variables to enlighten the process of vocabulary acquisition. (Yonsei University)

Literature education should lead to individual and diverse appreciations of learners’ about literature. But most of the literature classes in Korean language education, have learners simply find out answers to a few questions. This method is to teach for ‘knowledge’, and is a ‘teacher-centered instruction’. Learners should not be ignored the pleasure of literature. The purpose of this study is to lead learners to various responses on the literature and share the responses with each other. This is learner-centered instruction and to lead to active participation for them. For this purpose, at first the author critically review the theory of ‘response-based Literature education’ set by Rosenblatt. And then the author analyze the problems concerning the method of teaching literature in Korean language education. Lastly the author construct a model which suggest 5-step-class instruction, and then show an example of the model, Yoon, Dong-ju's ‘Prologue’. Response-based Literature education could be useful for Korean learners who have various nationalities, social and cultural backgrounds. Various responses on literature make their classes more interesting. The transaction among learners would help them to understand for the intercultural. (Honam University)
