Methods: A cross-sectional design was used in this study, A convenience sample of university students were recruited from three universities in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, Korea. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires with 547 university students. The scales used for this study were the Korean version of the Children of Alcoholics Screening Test (CAST-K), Symptom Checklist-90-Revision (SCL-90-R), Rosenberg`s Self-esteem Scale, and the Way of Coping Checklist. Results: Participants were classified into three groups; nondrinking-parents group (53.5%), social drinking-parents group (21.8%), and problem drinking-parents group (24.7%). Participants whose parents were problem drinkers had significantly higher scores on all the subcategories of SCL-90-R compared to those of other groups. In the participants group whose parents were problem drinkers, mental health problem had a significant positive correlation to passive coping methods and a negative correlation to self-esteem. There was a significant negative relationship between self-esteem and positive coping methods. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate the mental health of university students may be negatively affected by their parents` drinking behaviors. Special attention and early interventions are needed for university students whose parents have drinking problems.

Methods: Subjects were 396 working in general hospitals or mental hospitals. Demographic factors, exposure to suicidal behaviors, mood states, and impact of event scores were collected between April and July2008. Mood state was measured with Korean Edition of Profile of Mood States (K-POMS). Impact of event was measured with Impact of Event Scale-revised (IES-R). Results: Of the respondents, 90.9% experienced at least one inpatient suicidal behavior. Emotional responses of respondents after their patients` suicidal behavior were shock, anxiety, self-doubt and disbelief. Mood states were negative for those who had worked over 10 years, had experienced colleagues quitting and were significantly different according to patient`s diagnosis, period of maintaining emotions, and level of stress. Impact of event was high among those who were nurses, had worked in mental hospitals, had worked over 10 years, had experienced colleagues quitting and were significantly differenced according to job status, patient`s diagnosis, period of maintaining emotion, and level of stress. Purpose: This study was done to identify the prevalence of depression and determine the relationship of body mass index and perceived health status to depression for elderly women who live alone in the community. Methods: A total of 175 adults aged over 60 participated in this cross-sectional descriptive study. Perceived heath status was measured using a self-report one-item questionnaire. Body mass index was calculated as weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters. Depression was assessed using the korean short version of the geriatric depression scale. Hierarchical linear regression was used to identify associations between variables. Results: Approximately 61.7%of elderly women who lived alone were depressed. The mean score for depression was 7.4(SD 3.39). Hierarchical linear regression showed body mass index(β=.25, p<.001) and perceived health status(β=-.26, p<.001) were independently associated with depression adjusting for general characteristics. These two predictors accounted for 12% of the variance in depression, Conclusion: These results suggest that obesity and perceived health status are risk factors for depression in elderly women living alone. Therefore, these factors should be considered when developing intervention program for elderly women with depression.
