Purpose: The purposes of this study were to explore nurse` bullying experiences according to demographic characteristics and to identify effects of workplace bullying and job stress on turnover intention in hospital nurses. Methods: One hundred sixty-one graduate students working as nurses were recruited. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Stepwise multiple regression with PASW 18.0. Results: Results show that 23.0% of the nurses interviewed had experienced bullying in the workplace within the last six months and 19.4% had been bullied during the entire employment period. Bullying perpetrators included nurses (52.9%), physicians (23.0%), and patients (17.8%). Bully nurses consisted of senior nurses (63.0%), managers or supervisors (29.6%), colleagues (3.7%), and junior nurses (3.7%). Job turnover intention in hospital nurses was significantly correlated with workplace bullying (r=.20, p=.012) and job stress (r=.37, p<.001). The most significant predictors influencing the turnover intention of hospital nurses were job stress, age, and bullying in total career and these factors accounted for 21.0% of the variance. Conclusion: Job stress and bullying significantly influence turnover intention. Therefore, educational programs should be developed and implemented to prevent workplace bullying.

Purpose: This study was done to investigate the prevalence of suicidal ideation and associated factors in Korean adults. Methods: From the database of the 5th Korean National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey conducted in 2010, cross-sectional data for 6,283 adults (≥20 years) were used in this analysis. Results: One year prevalence of suicidal ideation was 14.8%. Higher suicidal ideation was found for women, elders, adults who were divorced or separated, who were in the lower socio-economic class, were alcohol dependent, had a short sleep time, and had higher perceived stress and depression. On stepwise multivariate logistic regression analysis, depression (odds ratio 6.89 [95% confidence interval 5.18~9.16]), perceived stress(3.52 [2.66~4.65]), being woman (1.72 [1.32~2.26]), being an elder (≥65 yrs) (1.78 [1.07~2.96]), low education(3.52 [2.66~4.62]) and not married (1.48 [1.04~2.12]) were associated with suicidal ideation in Korean adults. Conclusion: The results indicate that suicidal ideation is highly prevalent in Korean adults, especially in people with depression or high perceived stress. Identification of high-risk group and suicide prevention programs are warranted to reduce the prevalence of suicidal ideation.

SPSS/WIN 18.0 version was used for descriptive analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation. Results: The mean scores of teachers` attitudes towards people with mental illness were, authoritarianism, 3.24, benevolence, 2.96, social restrictiveness, 3.44 and community mental health ideology, 2.75. There were significant differences in benevolence according to age. Data were collected through questionnaires from 393 older people. Data analysis was done with SPSS/WIN 17.0. Results: The prevalence of depression for elders was 14.8%. Living with family and level of education were significant factors related to depressive symptoms identified through multiple logistic regression analysis. After adjusting for several confounding factors, the factors related to depressive symptoms were number of chronic diseases, social support, frequency of social contact, sleep disturbance, and stress. Conclusion: Results of this study indicate that there is a need to construct and implement an integrated preventive program for depression which deals with care for chronic disease, reduction of stress, increased connection with a community network for social support and management of sleep disturbances.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore levels of depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation in maladjusted Korean soldiers and identify factors that influence suicidal ideation. Methods: Instruments were the CES-D (Center for Epidemiologic Studies-Depression Scale), STAI (State Trait Anxiety Inventory), and SSI (Scale for Suicidal Ideation). The participants were 94 maladjusted soldiers from one army base in Gyeong-gi Province. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires, and analyzed with the SPSS/WIN 20.0 program. Results: Mean scores were; for CES-D, 42.1±13.10, for STAI-I (state-anxiety) and STAI-II (trait-anxiety), 60.3±15.05 and 61.9 12.14 respectfully, and for SSI, 23.1±9.52. There were significant differences in suicidal ideation according the general characteristics of education, prospects for the future, and having someone to talk about troubles. Major variables showing significant correlations were prospects for the future, depression, trait anxiety, state anxiety, and suicidal ideation. Depression and prospect for future were significant predictors of suicidal ideation (Adjusted R2 65%). Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, it is important to assess significant mental health problems at the clinical level and provide suicidal ideation prevention in maladjusted soldiers. Active input from experts such as nursing officers and intervention programs that focus on depression are needed.

Methods: The participants were 260 women, aged 40 to 64, living in Busan City or Kyungnam Province. The measurement scale used in the study were the ``Korean Spirituality Scale`` and a ``Self-esteem Scale``. The collected data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson` correlation coefficients, and simple linear regression with the SPSS/WIN 20.0 program. Results: The level of spirituality and self-esteem of the women averaged 3.1. For differences in spirituality and self-esteem by general characteristics, there were significant differences according to religion, employment, and economic status. There was a significantly positive correlation among spirituality and self-esteem. Simple linear regression analysis showed that spirituality accounted for 49% of the variance in self-esteem. Conclusion: The interest in spirituality is an important in psychological nursing to meet patient demands, especially patients who are experiencing existential problems. It is necessary to provide psycho-spiritual programs for the middle-aged women to improve self-esteem. Future research with experimental designs and random sampling needs to be done to examine relationships between middle-aged women`s spirituality and self-esteem.
