Purpose: This study investigated the current mental health status of school-age children from multicultural families and explored the maternal factors influencing their mental health. Methods: The subjects consisted of 70 pairs of elementary students and their mothers who were registered at Global Children Center in A City and Support Center for Multicultural Families in H County. One of the dependent variables was the children`s mental health measured using the Korea Child Behavior Checklist, and the predictors were the maternal factors measured using the Korean General Health Questionnaire, modified East Asian Acculturation Measure, modified Acculturation Stress Scale for International Students, and reformulated Social Support Scale. Results: 14.7% of the children were within the clinical range for total social competence, and 8.7% showed elevated total behavior problems. Maternal acculturation stress, marginalization, and depression were the predictors of the total social competence, explaining 25.0% of the latter. One of the contributors to the total behavior problems was the maternal mental health, explaining 18.0% of such. Conclusion: The findings indicated that promoting the mental health of children from multicultural families requires comprehensive support for positive acculturation and the promotion of mental health in interracial married women.

Purpose: This study was done to identify protective factors which predict internet game addition in middle school students using data mining decision tree analysis. Methods: The participants were 557 (Male=233, Female=324) middle school students from G city. Data were collected using structured questionnaires from March, 25 to May, 4, 2013, and analyzed using the descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA, decision tree, using SPSS 20.0 program. Results: The result of this research showed the prediction model for protective factors related to internet game addiction. Causative factors included gender, family support and father’s attitude as the family protective factor, and planning ability as the personal protective factor. Level of accuracy of the decision tree was 70.6%. Conclusion: The different rules classified by the decision tree model in this study should contribute as baseline data for discovering informative knowledge and developing interventions tailored to gender and planning ability in internet game addiction.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the correlation between spiritual well-being and mental health and to examine the effect of spiritual well-being on mental health in nursing students. Methods: Between October 2011 and November 2012 nursing students (n=193) in 2 universities in 2 cities completed measures of spiritual well-being and mental health. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression with the SPSS/Win 20.0 program. Results: All variables correlated significantly with each other in the positive direction: mental health was correlated with existential well-being (r=.72) and religious spiritual well-being (r=.23). The factor influencing mental health was existential well-being (β=.70, p<.001). Existential well-being explained 51.0% of nursing students`` mental health. Conclusion: The results of the study indicate that spiritual well-being of nursing students is related to mental health. Especially, existential well-being has a major effect on mental health in nursing students. Therefore, it is necessary to develop strategies which strengthen existential well-being in order to improve perspective nursing students.

Purpose: This study was done to examine the effects of MBTI self growth program applied to nursing students. Methods: A non-equivalent control group, pretest-posttest design was used. The participants were 51 nursing students, 24 in the experimental group and 27 in the control group. The MBTI self growth program was conducted for the experimental group once a week for 2 hours for 8 weeks, and not for the control group. For both groups, self-efficacy, anxiety and self-esteem were measured before and after the experiment. Data were analyzed by using x2-test, t-test, paired t-test, and unpaired t-test. Results: Self-efficacy increased significantly (t=5.08, p< .001) in the experimental group. A significant difference between the two groups was revealed (t=2.81, p=.007). Anxiety decreased significantly (t=-2.93, p=.009) in the experimental group. A significant difference between the two groups was not revealed. Self-esteem increased significantly (t=4.46, p<.001) in the experimental group. A significant difference between the two groups was not revealed. Conclusion: Results indicate that the MBTI self growth program has a positive effect on the dependent variables of the experimental group.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the total, direct, and indirect influence of depression on health behavior (HB); to determine relative magnitudes of specific mediating effects of anger expression in gender specific subgroup among elders. Methods: A cross-sectional correlational survey was conducted in S and G cities with 333 community-dwe1ling elders (male=170, female=163). Data were collected from September 7 to November 7, 2013. Kee`s GDSSF-K for depression, Spielberger`s STAXI for anger expression and Choi & Kim’s health behavior assessment tool were used. Multiple-mediation analyses using Indirect SPSS macros were performed. Results: Depression had a significant total, direct and indirect effect on HB in both male and female. In women, direct and indirect effect of depression on HB were higher than in men. Specific indirect effects of depression on HB were evidenced via anger-control and anger-out for men and via anger-control and anger-in for women. Among anger expression, anger-control was a more salient mediator for both male and female. Conclusion: Findings suggest that depression and anger-control should be addressed in tandem for promotion of HB for elders. Tailored interventions for the promotion of HB should be developed considering gender of target population.
