Purpose: The purposes of this study were to investigate moral distress, job satisfaction and turnover intention of mental health nurses, and identified influencing factors on mental health nurses' turnover intention. Methods: A descriptive survey was conducted with 85 mental health nurses working in mental medicine department closed wards of 5 hospitals in Busan Metropolitan City and Gyeongsangnam Province. Data were collected from December 1, 2015 to January 31, 2016 and analyzed using percentage, frequency analysis, average, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple linear regression analysis, with SPSS/WIN 18.0. Results: 1) Moral distress had a statistically significant positive relationship with turnover intention (r=.24, p=.023). Job satisfaction had a statistically significant negative relationship with turnover intention (r=-.45, p<.001). 2) Moral distress had a positive effect on turnover intention (β=.23, p=.018), and job satisfaction, a negative effect on turnover invention (β=-.44, p<.001). These variables explained 24.0% of the variance. Conclusion: Findings indicate that moral distress and job satisfaction are important variables influencing turnover intention in mental health nurses. Development and provision of intervention programs to reduce moral distress and increase job satisfaction will help to decrease nurses' turnover intention.

Purpose: This study was done to define and clarify the concept of resilience in people who are mentally disabled. Methods: Rodgers' evolutionary approach to concept analysis was used to identify common attributes, antecedents, and consequences of the resilience of people who have mental disabilities. A literature search of the RISS, Kiss, CINAHL, PubMed, ProQuest, Scopus and PsycArticle databases from 1980 to 2016 was conducted, using the key words of ‘psychiatric disorder resilience’, and ‘mental illness resilience.’ Thirteen relevant articles and one book were finally selected and reviewed in depth. Results: The concept analysis showed that, the attributes of resilience in people with mental disabilities were ‘flexibility’, ‘potentiality’, ‘strengthening’. The antecedents of resilience were psychiatric symptoms and perceived stigma. The consequences of resilience were understood to be recovery. Conclusion: The findings in this study indicate that it is important to provide preliminary knowledge necessary for mental health nurses to reinforce resilience in people with mental disabilities. There is also a need to develop a scale to measure resilience in this population.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the relationships between depressive symptoms, stigma and social support in hospitalized PTB (pulmonary tuberculosis) patients. Methods: Participants were 256 patients with PTB who were admitted in two national tuberculosis hospitals. Results: Higher levels of stigma were significantly related to depressive symptoms in patients with PTB. Self-reports of social support by medical staff were negatively associated with depressive symptoms in patients with PTB. Stigma and social support by medical staff were found to be significant predictors of depressive symptoms after controlling for potential confounders. Conclusion: Findings suggest that intervention for depressive symptoms be incorporated into treatment for patients with PTB, and strategies to decrease TB-related stigma and increase social support by medical staff be provided to prevent depressive symptoms.

Purpose: The study was done to investigate effects of a parent empowerment program using MBTI (Myers-Brigs Type Indicator) on self-esteem, parent-child communication, and parenting sense of competence in mothers of elementary school students. Methods: Research design was a quasi-experimental research with pre- and post-test. Participants were 26 mothers recruited from mothers of elementary school students. The program was provided to the experimental group for 60 minute sessions once a week for 8 weeks. Data were analyzed using Fisher's exact probability test, x2 test, and t-test with SPSS/WIN 12.0 program. Results: The first hypothesis was verified as the score for self-esteem in the experimental group was significantly higher than the control group (t=3.14 p<.001). The third hypothesis was verified as the score for parenting sense of competence in the experimental group was significantly higher than the control group (t=2.58 p<.017). Conclusion: These results indicate that the parent empowerment program applying MBTI enhances self-esteem and parenting sense of competence in mothers of elementary school children. Therefore, this program is an appropriate strategy for community mental health nurses to use to improve parent empowerment.

Purpose: Purpose of this study was to examine effects of Motivational Interviewing(MI) training for nurses. Methods: In this quasi-experimental study with before and after tests, evaluation of a 7-session workshop was done. Participants were 36 nurses enrolled in a graduate nursing program. They completed a questionnaire which included assessment of motivational interviewing skills as measured by Helpful Response Questionnaire (HRQ) and confidence (5 items) in using MI. Two coders independently and blinded rated the before and after HRQ self-reported responses. Data were analyzed using paired t-test, descriptive analysis. Results: The results showed increasing use of open-ended questions (score range of 0.94~2.67, p<.001), reflection (3.17~5.83, p<.001), and decreasing use of closed-ended questions (3.31~1.10, p<.001) and road blocks (4.79~2.63, p<.001), but did not show significant changes in confidence to use MI. Preferred training options, in order of priority, were DVD, written exercise, real play, role play and lecture. Conclusion: Results of this study suggest the following: a) further research on developing and refining MI training programs as a leading strategy for actual increasing communication ability b) training trainers who can provide systematic feedback, supervision and evaluation c) developing standardized patients, clinical scenarios, training examples for clinical use in communication training.

Purpose: This study was done to examine the prevalence and associated factors of depressive symptoms among married immigrant women in South Korea. Methods: Data from the 2015 Living Profiles of Multiculture Family Survey were used in this study. The sample consisted of 1,579 married immigrant women aged 19 to 39 years. Sociodemographic, acculturation, and social support factors were analyzed. Logistic regression was used for the data analysis. Results: Married immigrant women having a poor relationship with their husbands and a culture gap with husbands were more likely to report depressive symptoms. Low socioeconomic status, no satisfaction with mother role, and no satisfaction with father role, and high social support resources were associated with depressive symptoms among married immigrant women in Korea. Having a moderate level of social support resources was more likely to lower the risk of depressive symptoms than high social support resources. Conclusion: The findings in this study indicate that prevention of depressive symptoms in married immigrant women in Korea could be aided by acculturation programs that include participation of husbands and social supports for the parenting role.
