Purpose: This study explores male nursing students’ experiences with returning to school after military service. Methods: Data were collected from 18 male nursing students who returned from military service between 2015 and 2017 through focus group interviews. The collected data were analyzed using Colaizzi’s method. Results: From the 325 meanings obtained from the study participants, 18 themes and 5 theme clusters were identified. The 5 theme clusters were found to be “way one has to go because he is a man,” “endurance despite hard work,” “gazing from the highland,” “different feeling of the same place,” and “expectation and desire.” Conclusion: Male nursing students’ experiences in the army had continuous meaning in the adaptive process of them leaving from and return to the university. Therefore, interest and effort within nursing schools and universities are needed so that the military experience can be beneficial to the university life, including the male students’ departure and return.

Purpose: This study investigated the sexual behaviors, emotional state, and suicide-related characteristics of female adolescents with sexual experience. Methods: This is a secondary data analysis study using the data of the 11th (2015) Youth Health Behavior Online Survey. The subjects were 889 female students who had sexual intercourse experience in middle and high schools in the Republic of Korea. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, x2 test, and hierarchical logistic regression were used. Results: Among the subjects, 22.2% reported having experienced homosexual or bisexual relations. The sexual debut time of 31.9% of the subjects was in elementary school or earlier, while 8.1% and 10.7% experienced pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, respectively. They reported negative emotional states (high stress 51.7%, unhappiness 17.8%, depressive mood 9.8%) and substantial suicide experiences (suicidal ideation 33.6%, suicidal plan 16.6%, suicidal attempt 13.2%). Through hierarchical logistic regression (Cox & Snell R2=.31), the influencing factors for suicide ideation identified included being subjected to sexual relations, experience of pregnancy, perceived stress and happiness, and depressive mood. Conclusion: It is important to prevent negative mental health consequences among female students with early sexual experience. Sexual education should strengthen their physical and mental safety through psychological care strategies.

Purpose: The purposes of this study are to review the literature on quality of life intervention programs and to recommend further research and clinical considerations to improve the quality of life among patients with schizophrenia. Methods: Three electronic databases - PubMed, CHINAHL and RISS - were searched using the search terms of “schizophrenia” AND “quality of life” AND “intervention*” OR “program*.” The search was limited to studies published in English and Korean. Results: Ten studies were selected for the final analysis and evaluated in terms of contextual and methodological quality. The 10 studies consisted of 5 randomized controlled trials, 4 quasi-experimental studies, and 1 case report. The selected studies utilized an educational program, art and music therapy, physical activity therapy, and community-based integrated programs to alleviate psychological symptoms and showed effectiveness in improving quality of life. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to construct a clear definition of the concept of clinical supervision among psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners (PMHNPs) in South Korea. Methods: The hybrid model was used to perform concept analysis on supervision. Results from both the theoretical review of 17 studies and a field study interviewing 12 PMHNPs were included in the final process. Results: The concept of supervision was found to have complex features and to consist of multi-dimensional meaning units, with 4 levels (including 11 attributes and 36 indicators). The dimensions and their 11 attributes are suggested as follows: 1) Learning dimension (intensive practice, clinical knowledge and skills, reflective practice), 2) professional support dimension (supervision function, evaluation and feedback, supervisory relationship, autonomy), 3) institutional dimension (supervision framework, policy of clinical supervision), and 4) consequential dimension (ensure the qualities of nursing care, professional development). Conclusion: Based on the results, supervision is defined as: “The provision of guidance and feedback on matters of personal, professional, and educational development in the context of a supervisee’s experience of providing safe and appropriate nursing care.” The findings in this study provide helpful insights for understanding supervision and practice development.

Adaptation to a new lifestyle - 1) satisfaction with trivial rounds of daily life, 2) finding new values, and 3) restoration of broken relationships. Conclusion: Abstinence experience among people with alcohol use disorder is decided with a variety of personal motives. Abstinence experience includes giving up relationships with people and pleasure with alcohol as well as difficulties with enduring stress without alcohol. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effect of adult attachment in the relationship between eating psychopathology and depression among patients with eating disorders. Methods: Patients (N=146) who visited a clinic for eating disorders participated in the study. Data were collected from December 2017 to February 2018 using the Eating Disorder Inventory (EDI-2), Revised Adult Attachment Scale (RAAS), and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II). Results: The subjects showed high scores on eating psychopathology (drive for thinness 15.02±5.11, bulimia 11.77±5.27, and body dissatisfaction 14.16±7.82), adult attachment (attachment avoidance 37.31±6.18 and attachment anxiety 16.63±5.38), and depression (24.26±10.81), and 65.1% of the participants showed above a moderate level of depression. There were significant correlations among eating psychopathology, adult attachment, and depression. We also found that adult attachment fully mediated the association between eating psychopathology and depression. Conclusion: Future interventions for patients with eating disorders who have experienced insecure attachment with their primary caregiver should focus on forming a therapeutic relationship with the therapist. In addition, family therapy might contribute to lowering attachment insecurities and depression by recovering the attachment between the patients and their parents.
