중국동포의 재이주를 통한 글로벌화가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 한국으로의 재이주는 물론, 미국을 향한 재이주 또한 매우 역동적으로 진행되고 있다. 그러나 정작 미국으로 이주한 '재미 중국동포'에 대한 연구는 매우 적다. 본 연구는 '재미 중국동포'에 관한 정보와 자료의 공백을 메우고자 노력했다. 따라서 본 연구는 현지조사와 설문조사 결과를 활용하여 '재미 중국동포'의 미국 이주 동기와 이주경로, 정착의 모습, 그들의 사회경제적 특징, 화교사회와 한인사회를 넘나드는 특성과 정체성의 형성을 집중적으로 조명했다. 특히 미국 현지에 적응하면서 야기되는 다양한 문제 및 그러한 문제를 해결하는 다양한 공식, 비공식적 네트워크에 대한 심층적인 조사를 수행할 수 있었고, 미국 내 중국동포 사회의 형성, 정착의 실태와 관련한 정책적, 학술적 함의를 도출해 낼 수 있었다.

The Globalization through the reimmigration of ethnic Koreans in China is actively underway. Reimmigration to Korea as well as reimmigration to the United States is being also very dynamic. However, very few studies have been made on the Korean-Chinese who have actually moved to the US. This study sought to fill the lack of information and materials about Korean-Chinese in US. Therefore, the study uses the results of field surveys and questionnaires to show the motivations and migration routes of Korean-Chinese to the US, the processes of settlement, their socio-economic characteristics, and the formation of properties and identities that encompass Chinese society and Korean society. In particular, It has been able to carry out in-depth research on various problems caused by their adapting to the United States and various formal and informal networks that solve such problems. It could also draw political and academic implications for the formation and settlement of Korean-Chinese communities in the US.
