이 글은 이석훈의 일본어 소설 「고요한 폭풍」을 중심으로 강연회라는 특수한 경험이 주체의 인식 변화에 미친 영향을 밝히는 것을 목적으로 한다. 「고요한 폭풍」은 문단의 대가가 아닌 일개 문인이 순회강연회에 참여하게 됨으로써, 국민으로 갱생하는 과정을 그린 일본어 소설이다. 주인공 박태민은 쟁쟁한 평론가들과 함께 선발되었다는 자부심을 느낌과 동시에 정세 변화에 대한 확신이 없어서 불안함을 느끼던 중 시국 강연회장에서 만난 청년들에게 조롱과 비난을 받으면서 스스로를 ‘핍박받는 선구자’로 인식하게 되고, 순회강연이 끝난 뒤에 비로소 새로운 국가의 국민으로 갱생했음을 선언한다. 이 글에서는 이석훈의 분신과도 같은 인물 박태민이 처음부터 전쟁에 대한 확신과 새로운 국민으로서의 출발을 확신한 이후에 전쟁 동원 강연에 참여했던 것이 아니라, ‘일본어 구사 능력’을 계기로 강연대에 선발되었음에 주목하여 당대 ‘국어(일본어) 사용’을 장려하는 사회 분위기 속에서 그가 적극적으로 ‘일본어 소설’을 창작함으로써 문단의 핵심 구성원에 포함되었음을 밝혔다. 또한 순회강연대에서 경험하게 되는 정신적·육체적 시련을 극복함으로써 시대가 요구하는 주체로 갱생하는 과정을 밝혔다. 즉 「고요한 폭풍」을 중심으로 갱생한 주체가 강연대에 참여한 것이 아니라, ‘강연’이라는 특수한 경험을 통해 주체가 갱생하는 과정을 분석하였다.

This paper is that we investigate the impact of the special experience of lectures on the change in the recognition of the subject, around the “quiet storm” novel Lee Seok-hun wrote in Japanese. Then, after he has participated in the only shrine visit of mainland, and witnessed the success of the Pacific Ocean Pearl Harbor attack, he is confident about the content. Writers such as Park Te-min did not involved in the war mobilization lecture after it was convinced the starting of a new nation with a confidence to the war from the beginning. He was called from the organization in the wake of the “ability to be Japanese”. So he was walk the line step, such as pioneer. In other words, he was supposed to be through a special experience of “lecture”, subject to rehabilitation.
