This study is for the purpose of researching critique shown in Chae Man-Sik’s Novels of the age of liberation. The korean literature in the age is characterized by the trend of realism, and the chief concern in the methods of creative writings is concentrated on the representation. The purport of realism is to embody the imperatively required national literature.
Chae Man-Sik’s novels was led to realism which was to represent the reality of the age. He had great reputation as a satirist. But one notices him as a realist who strains after for historical problem. He criticized the age of Liberation that distorted the truth. He endeavored to make sharp observations of the contemporary social conditions. We investigated how his literary consciousness was reflected in his novels.
The aspect of critical realism derived from the self-scrutiny. He was made to be captured by self-criticism. The critique reached the acme through the divulging of the Japanese imperialism. He nat only criticized the self-fault but formalized the contradiction of society in his novels. The critique was aimed to search the historical meaning and a forecast. He tries to find a solution to a problem of a nation, spouting the age of liberation. As a result, he expects the next generation to come.
