본고에서는 먼저 읽기 동기 및 몰입을 증진시킬 수 있는 대표적인 방안에 대하여 선행 연구를 통해 고찰해 본 뒤, 이에서 드러나는 한계점을 바탕으로 읽기 동기 고양 방안에 대해 보다 깊은 논의와 연구를 필요로 하는 과제들에 대해서 논의해 보았다. 과제·텍스트 제공, 반응의 활성화, 독서 환경 조성이라는 측면 아래, 구체적으로 많은 읽기 동기 고양 방안들이 적절하게 도전적인 과제의 제공, 독서 선택권 확대, 구체적인 피드백의 제공, 사회적 상호작용 기회의 제공, 읽기 시간과 기회의 마련에 초점을 두고 있음을 검토하였다. 그리고 이러한 방안들의 한계를 검토하여, 읽기 목표의 설정 및 명확화, 가치의 제시와 강조, 읽기 동기 조절 전략의 안내 및 지도 측면이 앞으로 보다 더 논의 및 연구되어야 함을 주장하였다.

This study addressed new avenues for enhancing reading motivation that require more discussion and study, after reviewing the existing representative practices for reading motivation improvement. Under the larger categorization of providing tasks and texts, invigorating teachers and students responses and building reading environments, specifically, I identified that many instructional practices focus on the provision of appropriately challenging reading tasks and specific feedback, the expansion of reading material selection, provision of social interaction opportunities, and the expansion of reading time and places. After reviewing the limitations of these practices, I proposed that researchers should pay attention to reading goals, reading task value, and meta-motivation in reading to enhance students’ reading motivation.
