Bilingual Research 45, 1-25. This study examines the interlanguage prosody of Chinese leaners of Korean. The productions of 35 texts by intermediate and advanced Chinese learners of Korean (20 females in total) are compared to the same productions by 5 female Koreans. 875 sentences in total were analyzed. The study investigates 4 categories of prosodic system such as intonation of Accentual Phrases(APs) decided by the types of first syllable in AP and the types of boundary tones for the declarative, interrogative, suggesting, and imperative sentences, and the phenomena of prolongation in the boundary tones. The results of the study can be summarized as follows: First, only advanced learners seemed to have acquired the rules of AP intonation. Second, both learner groups did not show a meaningful difference from Koreans in terms of the macro-types of intonation in boundary tones. However, Rise-Fall that is quite frequently used by Koreans in declarative was not used by the either groups. Third, unlike Koreans, neither group showed the prolongation in boundary tones, and the Length of boundary tones was relatively quite short.(University of Seoul)

Bilingual Research 45, 27-49. The purpose of this study is to investigate foreign language anxiety and risk-taking of Korean language learners and the correlation between them and achievement. The study employs two questionnaires for foreign language anxiety and risk-taking, and one evaluation test for achievement. in this study, There are 179 participants who study Korean with academic purpose. The results of this study showed that them are specific aspects of foreign language anxiety and risk-taking on the learners` variables and a negative correlation was found between foreign language anxiety and achievement, especially, between foreign language anxiety and productive skills such as speaking and writing. On the other hand, it was only found a positive relationship between risk-taking and achievement on the advanced-level. And there isn`t any correlation between foreign language anxiety and risk-taking. (Kyung Mae University)

Bilingual Research 45, 51-75. This study aims to investigate the needs of developing Korean culture education topics for overseas Korean language teachers and learners in the C1S area. There have been numerous discussions within Korean language education regarding effective ways to deliver Korean culture education. Rather than dealing with it in a one-sided way as it was done in the past, recent discussions have yielded a viewpoint that Korean culture education may be more effective if approached from the comparative culture perspective. Against this backdrop, first, some of the cultural topics from the Korean textbooks were extracted and then their preferences were determined. Alter that, a needs analysis was done to find cultural elements that weren`t included in the textbook and materials to be used in the US area. Findings from the study will be used as basic research references for developing culture education materials specific to this area.(Kyung Hee University)

Bilingual Research 45, 77-108. This study is inquire into the acquisition aspects of ``-go`` for the multicultural family`s children. Firstly, this study divides the acquisition aspects into ``opportunity, enumeration, contrast, simultaneity`` according to the semantic fitnetion of ``-go``. And then this study examines out the acquisition aspects related with the time adverb, the conjunctive verb, and the conjunctive ending. The results are as follows. 1) Apparently, the appearance aspects of ``-go`` follows the order of ``opportunity - simultaneity - enumeration - contrast``, of which ``-go of opportunity`` comes first. However, in view of time cognition through the children`s time adverbs and of the using aspect of conjunctive adverbs, it is found out that ``-go`` is acquired by the semantic order such as ``enumeration - opportunity - simultaneity - contrast``. It means that the acquisition is not different from grown-ups using aspect of ``-go-``, which tells us that the acquisition step and using frequency are not irrelevant each other. 2) ``-go of opportunity`` appears first than ``-go- of enumeration`` apparently In view of time cognition through the time adverbs, the time concept which is understood uncorrectly at four years old is understood clearly at five years old. It can be said that the cognition of the tine concept brings about the increase of using ``-go of opportunity``. It is thought that the understanding on ``-go`` influences on the appearance of ``-eoseo(어서)`` which has an equal meaning to ``-go of opportunity``. 3) It is found out that ``-go of enumeration`` begins to appear at the mid 4`s, and its prevalence become higher at the mid 5`s. It is thought that the late appearance of ``-go of enumeration`` is due to the sentence lists which substitute for the enumeration and the conjunctive adverb, ``Tto(또)``. This also can be checked out by way of the appearance aspect of the conjunctive adverbs, It tells us that the acquisition order can not be fixed by way of only the appearance aspect of ``-go``. 4)-go of contrast suggests the meaning of contrast after cognition of each situation by way of the enumeration. As a result, it is found out that ‘-go of contrast’ begins to appear after the mid 5`s, which is related to the appearance time of ‘jiman(지만)``, which has an equal meaning to ``-go of contrast``. 5) ``-go of simultaneity`` begins to appear early with ``-go of opportunity``, but its realization aspects are not many. It is thought that they are due to both the speech material of children and the syntactic restriction which ``-go of simultaneity`` has.(Yeungnam University)

한국어 교사의 교사 효능감 연구

Bilingual Research 45, 109-132. This paper examines what makes a Korean language teacher efficient in the classroom in terms of teachers sense of efficacy. To investigate Korean language teachers` sense of efficacy, OSTES(Ohio State Univ. Teacher efficacy scale) is translated and revised to be applied to KM. field. And to decide relevant factors of the Korean language teacher, preliminary survey was made by 20 Korean teachers. There are 164 in-service Korean language teachers included in the formal survey. The average score of Korean language teachers sense of effleacy is 6.44 out of 9 and efficacy in instructional strategy ia higher than efficacy in classroom management or efficacy in student engagement. Research has been conducted on the statistical relationship between factors of Korean teachers and teachers` sense of efficacy, As a result, mare experienced teachers generally show higher efficacy and the number of students teachers teach at the same time meaningfully affects teachers` sense of efficacy. Furthermore, the average salary of the teachers correlates with teachers` sense of efficacy. Reeducation experiences, teacher positions and certificates for a Korean teacher and motivating factor to be a Korean teacher don`t show statistical meaningfulness in connection with teachers` sense of efficacy.(Hankuk University of Foreign Studes)

Bilingual Research 45, 133-165. The extensive reading means reading a lot of easy, enjoyable books. In the extensive reading, students do self-selected reading. Therefore, it is very important to select materials for successful extensive reading activities. This paper is for selecting materials and coding reader levels for the extensive reading activities in Korean language education. For this goal, this paper firstly will establish general criteria for selecting materials and secondly will propose factors for selecting materials. The factors for selecting materials are as follows: 1) Learner Factors - appropriate language level(vocabulary, structures), motivation(arouse curiosity) 2) Subject Factors - the relevance to the curriculum, suitability of context, authenticity, exploitability 3) Formal Factors - the size of books(pages), illustrations. And thirdly, we have conducted a survey about learner factors for selecting materials. On the basis of the criteria of selecting materials, we selected 250 reading materials that based on lots of various texts, and graded these things into each degree of their difficulty. Finally, it is expected that this study might contribute to selecting various materials for the extensive reading in Korean language education.(Pusan Univenity of Foreign Studies)

Bilingual Research 45, 167-188. This article has been written from the recognition of the necessity of writing ethics, which was not dealt with extensively in KAP writing education. Foreign students sometimes, for various reasons, violate writing ethics. The reason why this is a serious issue is because an individual may become accustomed to undesirable and unethical writing habits without being aware of the immorality behind one`s own actions. However, solutions should not be found from simply accusing the learner of one`s dishonest attitude or consciousness, hut solutions should be found from understanding the reality of current Ethical writing` education and from searching for ``the direction that the education of writing ethics`` should take in KAP writing education. In this writing, studies on current writing ethics education has been done through writing materials for KAP learners, and reviewing the writing syllabuses for KAP learners. Moreover, several proposals concerning the direction of ``writing ethics education`` for both foreign and international students are made. Now, the placement of emphasis on the importance of an ``honest and sincere`` writing above the importance of teaching about the writing ``method`` and the required ``content`` is imperative. Therefore, henceforth, the issue of ``ethics`` should be dealt with in greater part in Korean writing and it is essential that a detailed education plan with its accommodation be developed.(Yonsei University)

Bilingual Research 4.5. 189-207. Thie study compared the use of connective endings in the spoken language between foreign spouses (without formal education) and international students (with formal education). Their output was collected, recorded and analyzed A brat of 23,146 words were spoken. A total of 19 connective endings were used 1,859 times, an average of 8.0% in the total usage. The results showed minimal difference compared to connective ending usage by native Korean speakers. The following connective endings of high frequent usage were analyzed: ``-고 (32.45%), -면 (16.96%), -어서 (16.61%), 는데 (13.31%), -(으)니까 (8.34%).`` The output from the two groups was close to native Korean speakers`` frequency of use. Between the two groups, the foreign spouses group indicated much higher usage of connective endings and their spoken rate, and yielded similar results from their counterpart. However, much of their output was attentive to language form and structure; accurate usage for meaning was compromised. The use of ``-`` in particular among foreign spouses was quite high compared to the international students and native Korean speakers. But unlike the native Korean speakers`` understanding of ``-t which is used to show certain condition, foreign spouses employed an extra layer of meaning. They assumed ‘background meaning`` embedded in the “premise” of the antecedent. As such, if the usage patterns of connective endings are similar to that of native speakers and if such speech performance is seen as fluency, then such assumption points to the possibility that fluency is not firmly based on accuracy. In the case of international students, the frequency of ``어서`` was quite high. This goes to show that students preferred the use of ``어서`` over ``-니까`` to explain reasons. Furthermore, ``-어서`` was the preferred connector over ``-고`` which explains the meaning of the antecedent.(Kyung Hee University)

이중언어학 45, 209-229. 본고는 중국소수민족에 대한 이중언어교육의 문제점을 찾아내어, 이중언어교육의 바람직한 모델을 총론적으로 제시하기 위해 작성되었다. 본고에 제기된 각론적인 문제들은 후속 연구를 통하여 지속적으로 보완될 것이다, 주지하다시피, 중국은 56개의 민족이 80여종의 언어를 사용하는 다민족·다언어 국가의 전형이다. 일부의 소수민족은 음성언어만을 가지고 있는 반면, 일부의 소수민족은 다종의 언어·문자를 사용하고 있다. 이같은 중국소수민족언어의 다양성은 이중언어교육의 복잡성과 직결된다. 본고가 추구하는 문제의식의 핵심은 어떻게 하면 소수민족에 대한 중국어교육과 민족어문교육을 효율적으로 전개 할 것인가이다. 사실 이 문제에 대해서는 현재 중국내외에서 다양한 형태의 논의가 전개되고 있는 중이다. 팔자들은 국제화 시대에 요구되는 다중 언어의 효율적인 교육차원에서 중국소수민족들이 직면하고 있는 이중언어 교육의 유향과 모델에 대하여 분석한 후, 그 문제점의 해결방식은 이중언어교육 모델의 혁신에 있음을 거듭 강조하였다, 물론 이중언어교육의 문제는 민족, 문화, 언어의 차이로 인해 동일한 접근방식으로 해결할 수 있는 간단한 문제는 아니다. 하지만 다양한 가치 속에 내재된 보편적인 이론의 구축이야말로 문제를 근원적으로 해결할 수 있는 최선의 방법임에 틀림없다. 본고는 이에 부응할 수 있는 일단을 제공하고자 하였다.(숭실대학교, 강남대학교)

중국인 한국어 학습자의 텍스트 생성과정 고찰-단락 구성과 모국어의 영향 관계-

The purpose of this study is to find aspects that Chinese learners acquire general conditions and rules and to seek the possibilities of their education through textual analysis which Chinese learners of Korean language form in terms of text-linguistic approach and interlanguage. For this, it is main analysis objects that are paragraph construction, which is the basic unit of text construction as well as the unit beyond sentences, the connection between paragraphs on the Korean text focusing on native language(Ll) influence related with paragraph construction, and inner conjunctive markets in paragraph. Research data include total 2,044 sentences and 18,709 phrases, which derive lion 42 pieces of essays of Korean essay contest in the whole China. Results of data analysis means that Korean paragraph construction of Chinese learners influence on ways of paragraph construction of their native language, Chinese language That is, in Korean language, in order to complete a paragraph as well as the connection between paragraphs, it must possess a ``small topic sentence`` and ``arguments`` in support of it. However, in case of Chinese Language, besides this construction between paragraphs, ``transitional paragraph`` or ``emphasized paragraph`` plays a pan in the connection function between paragraphs. Korean text which Chinese learners of each grade wrote is affected by Chinese paragraph classification. Also, in a respect of inner construction of Korean paragraph, short sentences seen on the Chinese text are frequently used, and Chinese learners omit conjunctive markers in Korean paragraph. On the other hand, due to Korean text`s characteristics emphasizing conjunctive markers, Chinese learners consciously try to use conjunctive markers, such as the ending connectives or conjunctive words, but happen to fail in accurate choice. In conclusion, to improve Korean writing education, based on the study of Korean text formation process of Chinese learners, inquiry activities model is required to help Chinese learners perceive influential relationship of native tongue-interference as obvious fonts with Korean language knms4edge in writing education practice.(Beijing Language and Culture University)
