한국어 말하기 평가에서 고정 오류 연구

Raters’ constant errors, represented mostly as leniency errors and halo effect, have been examined for the L2 Korean speaking assessment by native Korean speakers. Fifteen Korean raters assessed twenty-seven native English, Japanese, and Chinese learners of Korean with three levels of beginning, intermediate, and advanced groups. FACETS program with multi-facets Rasch model has been used to analyze the data. The results are as follows: (1) test-takers’ mother tongue has little impact on Korean raters’ rating patterns in a whole, but they tend to grade leniently to English learners of Korean, (2) test-takers’ levelling by L2 Korean proficiency show statically significant influence on raters’ ratings. The study finds that Korean raters could have meaningfully constant errors on their assessment, even though they don’t agree with committing constant errors in the survey. In details, they have more leniency grading to English learners of Korean, while they have halo effects to the beginning stages of L2 Korean learners. The result implies that Korean raters should carry out the authentic speaking assessment training before the real tests.(Konkuk University)

화용 전략에 따른 태국인 한국어 학습자의 한국어 피동 표현 이해 연구

Korean passive has more pragmatic strategies than that of the Thai language. function of passive expressions, thus, have the effect of politeness since the speaker delivers his/her opinion indirectly. In this paper, I introduce how differently Thai-speaking Korean learners and native Korean speakers perceive pragmatic strategies in Korean passive. In order to do so, I compare the shares of passive and non-passive expressions in the language use of the two groups and analyze the difference in each pragmatic strategy. According to the study, Thai-speaking Korean learners used much fewer passive expressions, which means they are not aware of politeness that Korean passive carries. Also, among Thai-speaking Korean learners, even those who used passive expressions as well did not fully understand pragmatic strategies. In other words, most Thai-speaking Korean learners recognized passive expressions merely as situational description, not as a politeness mark, and attempted to replace passive expressions with other grammatical devices or to translate them into their first language. In many occasions, Thai-speaking Korean learners show the tendency of heavily depending on specific sentence patterns or merely choosing the honorific pre-final ending, ‘-si-.’ This tendency is highly likely to be influenced by their first language of the learners, which does not have pragmatic strategies in its passive expressions and conveys formality by adjusting tones or attitude, and by many Korean language textbooks which do not fully explain the pragmatic strategies of passive expressions.

The purpose of this study is to review critically problems of the definition of the subject of Korean and Chinese with respect to the topic, and to analyze the characteristic of the topic of the two languages, also to clarify the differences and similarities. Reviewing the definition of the subject of Korean and Chinese critically, the presence of the subject form or ‘i/ga’ in Korean and the word order, in front of predicate in Chinese are very superficial phenomena. These can not only identify the subject of the two languages and it has been confirmed that it is effective in identifying the subject to consider the selectional restriction of predicate. The characteristic of the topic of Korean and Chinese has been examined in the second place. Elements of a sentence can be analyzed in the syntactic and the discourse perspective. The subject is the concept of the syntactic perspective and the topic is the discourse perspective. The topic, depending on languages, is achieved regularly and explicitly in elements of a sentence. Such languages refer to the topic prominent language, Korean and Chinese also have this characteristic. A sentence of this language is basically constructed, based on the relation of the topic and comment. Thus, based on the concept of the topic this paper examines the characteristic of the topic of Korean and Chinese. In conclusion, this paper examines the differences and similarities of the two languages with the topic position and maker, elements that may be the topic, and possibility of omission of the topic. To better identify and understand the characteristic of the subject and topic of Korean and Chinese, it will give a lot of help to analyze the sentence structure of both languages and it can contribute to the research of language typology with analysis of the differences and similarities of the topic of the two languages.(Kyung Hee University)

This paper aims to build a theoretical basis of the arguable relationships between bilingual ability and creativity by reviewing the research findings on this theme. Having this purpose, this paper first of all critically reviews previous research on the degree of bilingualism and cognitive ability by focusing on the three kernel variablesinhibitory control, selective attention, and working memory utilization skills. Second, to extend the discussion to the area of creativity this paper examines recent studies on the association of bilingualism with creativity. Centering on the term bilingual creativity, this paper discusses the domain(language)-specific and domain-general characteristics of this notion to suggest the future directions of related research. Third, this paper discusses three dominantly referred variables on bilingual creativeness-meta-linguistic awareness, analytic/divergent thinking, and problem solving skills-on how these variables address the effect of bilingualism on creativity. This paper finally notes on some methodological drawbacks and cautionary points for interpretation for the future research on bilingual creativity.(Chonbuk National University)

The purpose of this research is to investigate the implicature comprehension ability of Korean language leaners. The implicature comprehension ability is the most important one of pragmatic competence irrespective of first language or second language. Nevertheless, there was little study on this ability of Korean language learners. So this study examined the ability to comprehend implicatures in L2 Korean. Participants were two groups: advanced-level second language learners (n=42) and Korean native speakers (n=36). The result of experiments show clearly that the difference between two groups was statistically significant, hence implicatures have become educational items of Korean.

한국어 피동 표지의 다의성과 습득 양상 -피동과 가능 기능의 구별

The prototypical characteristics of the passive construction are following; i) the subject is a direct object in the corresponding active, ii) the subject of the active is indicated by an agentive adjunct or is deleted, and iii) the verb is marked passive (Siewierska 1984). Korean passive markers have not only passive function but also other functions such as potential, spontaneous, and causative. However, in many Korean textbooks, these polysemous functions are presented in mixed types making second language learners confused. To find effective teaching method alternatives to these matters, this study investigated acquisition of the polysemous functions of Korean passive markers. As a result of experimental tasks, second language learners of Korean acquired the passive and the spontaneous in similar patterns. However accuracies of the potential and the causative were significantly different from those of the passive. These result can be interpreted that learners recognized the difference of the passive and the potential and they acquired the potential more slowly than the passive. So teachers must recognize the polysemous characteristics of Korean passive markers. And it is suggested that learners distinguish the passive and the potential using the syntactic structures and contexts rather than the morphological specificities.(Hankuk University of Foreign Studies)

영어권 한국어 학습자의 통사 및 담화,화용론적 층위에 따른 부사어 위치 이해 양상

This study has examined the acquisition aspects of Korean adverbial position in English-speaking Korean language learners. In order to examine this, this study poses two questions. They were on the extent of learners’ comprehension about the position of adverbial within the sentence. In order to solve the study questions, this study developed evaluation forms on adverbial position and conducted an experiment with intermediate level learners and Korean native speakers. As the result of analysis on comprehension difference between the two groups through chi-square independence test, learners showed comprehension difference about adverbial position to Korean native speaker. Especially, learners showed less comprehension about the position of adverbials which were moved by the speaker’s intention. Through the study, the necessity of teaching and learning of adverbial position could be confirmed.(Yonsei University)

This thesis is a comparative study of adverbs referring to tense, aspect in Korean and Thai. It aims to analyze the similarities and differences between the two languages, with the emphasis on how certain words or phrases are used to indicate specific time frames of an action in each language. The main reason why Korean and Thai belong to the different language groups. As a member of Altaic language family, Korean is agglutinative, forming words by adding inflectional endings to the end of a stem to convey grammatical functions. The specific references to a time at which an action happens is therefore indicated by affixes added to verbs. In contrast to Korean, Thai belongs to the Sino-Tibetan language family. It is characterized as an isolating language that uses specific grammatical words, rather than inflection, to express syntactic relations within sentences. Instead of indicating by affixes added to verbs, specifying tenses in Thai is achieved by using such add-on words as time adverbials and auxiliary verbs. This comparative study is expected to provide a more nuance understanding of language differences and help Thai and Korean learners to be able to choose the right and appropriate way to express tenses, aspects when translating Thai into Korean and vice versa. It is also hoped that this research lead to a more effective method in understanding languages.(Chungnam national university)

The present work observed the course of the acquisition of collocation relations with Thai learners of Korean as the main subject, and experimented with the aim to find how the theory of analogy was reflected in the course of Korean acquisition of elementary and intermediate level learners who were Thai. When language learners study a foreign language, it is common that the language is acquired in chunks in the case of collocation. Thus while the acquisition of syntagmatic relations is crucial in language learning, the present study holds that it is equally important to study the paradigmatic relations of the language at hand in such an acquisition. ideally the chunks, that is, the syntagmatic relations will be acquired first and the stored database of vocabulary will remind the student of individual words once he faces a new and different collocation, but if this is not the case, the student returns to the stage in which the collocation is relearnt and once again stored up. According to the outcomes of the present research, a new task to be addressed is to find how teach the elementary learner to learn the polysemy of predicates, and how to pull the intermediate learner up to the advanced level. To restate, the aim is to find a way to expand the lexicon of learner substantive. (Ewha Womans University)

This study’s aim is to investigate on 4-year bachelor’s degree of the present state and its challenges of Korean language education in Cambodia. Korean education in Cambodia is currently burning as hot as K-pop and has rappidly developed since the first and earlier opened its non-degree program in Institute of Foreign language (IFL) which is belong to Royal University of Phnom Penh, the prestige university under the supporting of Korean ambassy in Cambodia in 2002. However, in order to achieve this kind of development, there are some matters that is existing in Korean language educaion in Cambodia have to be improved. To reinforce intrinsic of Korean language education in Cambodia, variouse education curriculum development, cultivating instructiors, methods and cultivating professional instructors, developing methodical textbooks and reference material for teaching is the urgent issue. Especially, developing korean textbook written in Cambodian for Cambodian students is in-needed. And moreover, Educating native instructors and improve professional intructors is important as well. For extrinsic of Korean language education, Through the increasing of Korean in Cambodia and exhanging of economic and culture, Two coutries’ relationship will be vitalized more bigger and stay stable in global economic(KyungHee University)
